Job Description: Security Architect (Contract-to-Hire)

Location: Phoenix AZ (Hybrid 1 day/week onsite)
Agency: AZDES Division of Technology Services (DTS)
Position Type: Staff Augmentation (Contract-to-Hire)
Hours: Full-time Day Shift
Duration: 5 Months (with eligibility for FTE conversion)

Position Overview

The Security Architect will assess planned and existing infrastructure applications and end user devices against agency- and state-defined security and compliance standards. The role focuses on identifying security deficiencies evaluating risk and recommending mitigation strategies.

This position provides expert security guidance to projects and technical teams while serving as a key advisor to leadership. The Security Architect collaborates closely with the Information Security Officer (ISO) to help define security standards operational processes and technical architecture decisions.
The selected candidate will also provide guidance and mentorship to a Junior Architect.

Key Responsibilities

Assess infrastructure applications and devices against established state security and compliance controls.
Identify security deficiencies and provide risk-based recommendations and remediation strategies.
Provide architectural oversight and technical security guidance for IT initiatives and projects.
Escalate and communicate security risks and activities to leadership as needed.
Collaborate with the ISO to define security standards procedures and operational activities.
Support the development of secure technical architectures and ensure alignment with best practices.
Mentor and guide Junior Architect staff.

Required Skills & Experience

5 years of professional security experience.
3 years of Architecture experience.
Hands-on experience with the NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 security framework (must have).
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of current Windows operating systems.
Intermediate knowledge of Cloud Computing architectures and security best practices.
Strong understanding of risk assessment compliance and vulnerability management.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
Strong verbal and written communication skills especially when explaining complex technical concepts.
Ability to collaborate across teams vendors and business units.
Strong conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply creative solutions.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Microsoft Workstations.
CISSP certification.
Enterprise-level experience working in large organizations.
