Job Summary

*** Temp Position 25/26 School Year Only***

The paraprofessional will provide assistance to a students and support classroom teachers in providing educational program support for students. The classrooms will have several children who are at various stages of academic progress. Some children will also have specific learning disabilities. Additional duties may include but not be limited to supervision during passing time before or after school playground or lunchroom supervision.

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma/equivalent required.
  2. Be deemed Highly Qualified per NCLB Requirements. To be highly qualified you must meet one of the following requirements: AA degree 72 approved quarter credits or passing score on Para Pro assessment.
  3. Valid first aid and CPR card desired.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.
  5. Physical stamina as required to keep pace with young children of various abilities.
  6. Strong writing abilities demonstrating competency in standard English format and conventions.
  7. Possess skills able to fulfill listed job description.

The successful candidate shall:

  • Provide appropriate assessment for student under the direction of the teacher.
  • Implement appropriate instructional strategies for student in conjunction with classroom teacher.
  • Take initiative to implement activities or help with classroom preparation
  • Assist student with goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth.
  • Maintain proper records and facilitate the necessary paperwork and forms as required by law and district policy under teacher direction.
  • Be flexible to the demands of the position and work closely with classroom teacher in assisting the needs of child both in and outside of the classroom.
  • Work with student in a calm caring enthusiastic supportive and consistent manner.
  • Adhere to and maintain confidentiality in accordance with the law and District policy.
  • Communicate effectively with children staff and parents of children regarding any support needed.
  • Help meet the physical and emotional needs of student.
  • Help support students and other students behavioral and emotional needs.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.

Mobility:While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time push or pull 18-26 lbs. sit kneel and crouch twist and bend use hands to type finger handle or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

Sense:The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision far vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Lifting:The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards:While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F . The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
