About Pharmacy Investigational Drug Services Pharmacy

This position is specific for our Investigational Drug Services Pharmacy. This is a small team that works closely with the Research groups at Corewell Health when medication is necessary for the clinical trial. An Investigational Drug Service (IDS) Pharmacy Technician supports clinical trials by managing preparing and dispensing research medications under pharmacist supervision ensuring protocol compliance and patient safety. Key duties may include inventory control strict protocol adherence and specialized compounding. Training in non-sterile and sterile compounding both non-hazardous and hazardous is preferred or will be taught as part of job training.

Scope of Work

Under the direction of a Pharmacist provides technical assistance processing and preparing medications and supplies. Works with multiple medication automation systems. Delivers medications and supplies to patient care areas. Triages phone calls and messages from multidisciplinary team members. Able to work in complex pharmacy areas (satellites sterile product compounding controlled substance handling inventory management).

  • Prepares supplies / medication including complex sterile formulations under the direction of a Pharmacist. May prepare hazardous or biologic products when properly trained and competencies are passed.
  • Prepares and packages bulk medications into unit of use packaging.
  • Handles controlled substances for pharmacy and patient care areas under direct supervision of a pharmacist per federal and state law.
  • Delivers pharmacy prepared medications controlled substances and supplies to various nursing stations/patient care areas.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintains all requirements for CPhT certifications. Completes all Corewell Health assigned competencies by assigned due dates.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Associates Degree
  • Hospital experience Preferred
  • LIC-Pharmacist Intern - STATEMI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or
  • LIC-Pharmacy Technician Temp - STATEMI State of Michigan Must obtain full licensure w/in 90 days of hire. Upon Hire required And
  • LIC-Pharmacy Technician - STATEMI State of Michigan 90 Days required
  • CRT-Pharmacy Technician Certified (CPHT) - PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Excludes - LIC- Pharmacist Intern 90 Days required Or
  • CRT-Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) - NHA National Healthcareer Association Excludes - LIC- Pharmacist Intern 90 Days required
  • Ideal candidate will possess both Full Pharmacy Technician License and Certification such as PTCB or ExCPT
  • Ideal candidate will possess excellent attention to detail
  • Strong IV experience and Haz Compounding would be a great plus
  • This position may eventually entail an Evening or Weekend component
  • This position will support the Investigational Drug Pharmacy
  • This will include compounding and drug dispensations assisting with monitor visits and other medication storage and documentation needs
