VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: PRIYD Group Volunteer
PRIYD Group Volunteer Competition #1-25
About Our Opportunity:
Working within the mission vision values and person-centred philosophy of the Agency the PRIYD Program (Providing Resources and Independence for Youth Development) is a community-based life skills program focusing on functional life skills and community participation for children and youth with support needs living in Burnaby New Westminster Richmond and Vancouver. The goals of the program are to increase each persons independence and to support the family. Service is provided both one-to-one and in small groups. Staff work directly with children and youth who may have diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder Down syndrome Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Fragile X syndrome Cerebral Palsy Oppositional Defiance Disorder and/or mental health concerns such as anxiety and depression.
Our Volunteers
  • Dedicate their time skills and efforts to assist with various community programs
  • Support clients while making a positive impact in the community
  • Support the organization in its mission values and commitment to compassionate and client-centered care.
  • Supportingclients to participate engaged in the activities
  • Facilitating social interactions setting boundaries and providing encouragement
  • Utilizing modelling to assist clients through transitions and during activities
  • Developing positive and supportive relationships with clients families and group leaders
  • Acting in accordance with the policies and procedures of the program (i.e. client confidentiality safety maintaining professional boundaries)

Volunteer Hours: Saturdays or Sundays 9 am -1 pm and/or 2 pm - 6 pm
Location: Community locations around Vancouver or Burnaby

What do you need to succeed
Training Experience
  • Experience working with children and youth with developmental disabilitiesor support needs
  • Demonstrated ability to identify health and safety issues for children and youth
  • Standard First Aid certificate is an asset
  • 6-month minimum commitment of 4.5 hours per week on Saturdays or Sundays
  • Ability to work actively in the community
Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check

Directions Youth Services is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV) which for more than 90 years has provided a variety of essential resources for children families and individuals in the Greater Vancouver community. We believe in the resiliency of Vancouvers youth who are at-risk homeless and street-involved. We assist youth under the age of 25 to get counselling for trauma mental health or substance issues.
