General Summary:
This position is responsible for overseeing the billing operations of the health center ensuring accurate and timely submission of claims managing the billing staff and maintaining compliance with all federal and state regulations. The individual is responsible for designing implementing and enforcing policies and procedures as well as streamlining effective billing processes. This position is highly visible and requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize plan and direct the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 years experience in medical billing preferably FQHC billing with multiple years in a supervisory role
- Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced setting. Experience with Epic EHR a plus.
- Attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills required.
- Excellent customer service to patients with billing questions and complaints.
- Demonstrates strong leadership abilities to manage and motivate the billing team.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Working Conditions:
- Carrying up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
- Standing 1-2 hours at a time (8 hours a day).

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the daily operations of the billing department ensuring timely and accurate billing processes.
- Monitors the submission of claims to payors managing claim delays and denials to maximize expeditious collections.
- Monitors accounts receivable aging and implements strategies to reduce outstanding balances.
- Prepares and analyzes data to identify denial trends track performance results and identify opportunities for process improvement enhanced performance and maximized reimbursement.
- Plans and coordinates department efforts in process improvement activities while driving standardization of workflows (best practices).
- Manages and communicates process and billing system changes and implements recommended solutions.
- Supervises and supports billing staff including training staff to ensure they are knowledgeable about billing procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Develops productivity and collections targets communicates expectations to staff and follows-up with management as needed.
- Ensures that all billing activities comply with federal state and local regulations and maintains awareness of changes in healthcare billing regulations and guidelines.
- Conducts regular audits to ensure accuracy and compliance in billing processes.
- Demonstrates excellent initiative and judgment. Works independently applying effective approaches to task prioritization time management delegation of tasks and meeting deadlines. Exhibits outstanding decision making and customer service.
- Promotes a work environment of accountability and ownership. Sets appropriate standards of performance and communicates clear expectations to staff. Shows direct and tangible evidence of coaching mentoring and professional development.
- Works collaboratively with Supervisor to finalize month-end reporting by assisting with reconciliation issues and questions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
