Brookhaven National Laboratorys Guest Services Division plays a vital role in enabling the Laboratorys world-class scientific mission by providing comprehensive high-quality services to its departments divisions guests users and visiting researchers. Through a strong commitment to operational excellence and customer-focused support the Division delivers an exceptional on-site experience across Food Services Conference Services On-site Housing Mail Services/Mailroom Transportation Services Fleet Services Motor Pool and QOL/BERA/Recreation programs. By ensuring these essential functions are executed with professionalism accuracy and responsiveness Guest Services helps create a seamless environment in which research teams and visiting collaborators can perform at their best contributing directly to the success of Brookhavens scientific enterprise.
Position Description
Guest Services is seeking an Auto-Truck Mechanic to join their team. Under minimum supervision performs required repairs maintenance servicing and incidental operation of gasoline diesel engine or propane driven vehicles such as automobiles trucks trailers and material handling equipment. Performs all duties associated with the removal and installation of two-way radios back-up sensing devices upholstery repair D/C power invertors back-up cameras and remote alarms. Performs limited welding brazing and painting and other body and fender repair work to maintain vehicles in operating order. Use and maintain all hand and portable tools shop machines and equipment necessary to perform assigned work.
This position reports to the Guest Services Division Motor Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor.
The hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm.

The successful applicant will be required to join IBEW Local 2230 and maintain membership within 30 days of their start date.
The Labs placement policy is to select the best qualified candidate for an available position. With respect to Bargaining Unit positions candidates are considered in the following order: (1) present benefits-eligible employees within the department/division and/or appropriate bargaining unit with preference for those within the immediate work group; (2) present benefits-eligible employees within the Laboratory; and (3) outside starting salary for this position is $44.23 per hour.
