Job Summary

TITLE: Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Holds a valid Kentucky certificate for principal
  • Holds a Rank I
  • Has at least three years of successful teaching experience.
  • Has demonstrated ability as an instructional leader as a teacher or administrator.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualification as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent or designee.

SUPERVISES: All certified and classified employees of the Board attached to the school and all other resources and service personnel while functioning in the assigned school off site locations or on the school grounds.

JOB GOAL: By use of leadership supervisory and administrative skills to manage assigned school so as to promote the educational development of each student and make the school facility an attractive pleasant and productive place in which to work and learn.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance by the schools staff and students of all school rules administrative regulations Board policies State Board of Education regulations and the school laws of Kentucky.
  2. Assists in the development revisions and evaluation of the curriculum.
  3. Program classes within established guides to meet student needs.
  4. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  5. Advises teachers regarding promotions and retentions and assumes responsibility for parent and/or teacher conferences in order to alleviate any misunderstandings regarding promotion and retention practices.
  6. Initiate design and implement programs to meet specific needs of the school.
  7. Assists in the recruiting screening hiring training assigning and evaluating of the schools certified staff.
  8. Make recommendations concerning transfers promotions demotions and dismissal of all personnel under his/her supervision.
  9. Supervises and directs the activities of all certified and classified staff members in the performance of their duties in the school building or on the school grounds.
  10. Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers and substitute teachers with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instruction.
  11. Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training.
  12. Approves the assignment of student teachers and assists in the supervision and evaluation of student teachers.
  13. Visits classrooms for observation of the teaching-learning process and provides for follow-up conferences with individual teachers.
  14. Supervises the counseling program to enhance individual student education and development.
  15. Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline.
  16. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according due process to the rights of students.
  17. Assumes responsibility for the conduct and welfare of students.
  18. Assumes responsibility for conferences and decisions in relation to probations suspensions and discipline of students.
  19. Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established rules regulations policies and statutes.
  20. Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to interpret Board policies and administrative directives; and to discuss and resolve individual student problems.
  21. Provides leadership and assumes responsibility for textbooks textbook funds and the various activity funds generated by student activities.
  22. Plan fire drills; oversee school-sponsored activities including athletics teacher meetings; oversee school exhibits school cafeteria summer school and evening activities in the building.
  23. Assume responsibility for the graduation program and certifies students for graduation. (high school only)
  24. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports records lists and all other paper work required or appropriate to the schools administration.
  25. Reports to appropriate central office administrative officers regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel equipment supplies and curriculum.
  26. Supervises bus and automobile traffic on the school grounds.
  27. Assure the security of the school building and the equipment.
  28. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the superintendent may assign from time to time.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work schedule to be established.

Job Requirements

  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Citizenship residency or work visa required
  • Strictly adheres to the Kentucky Certified Code of Ethics (704 KAR 20:680)
  • Work is performed while standing sitting and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech vision written language andhearing.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires the ability to lift carry push or pull light objects and students up to 25 lbs

Certification Requirement

Possession of certification as required by Kentucky law.
