Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Per Diem Advanced Practice Nurse Psychiatric Statewide located in Trenton NJ. The Advanced Practice Nurse reports to the site psychiatrist for clinical matters (e.g. diagnosis and treatment) and to the site administrator for administrative matters (e.g. vacation timekeeping). The Advanced Practice Nurse supervised by the site psychiatrist performs psychiatric evaluations conducts psychiatric follow-up visits and prescribes psychiatric medications to inmates within the New Jersey Department of Corrections. The age range of inmates varies from 16 to 65. In addition the Advanced Practice Nurse works with a variety of healthcare professionals (e.g. physicians psychologists social workers nurses) and correction officers in a correctional environment providing health services to inmates. Duties include: Responds to and initiates care for psychiatric emergencies throughout the facility. Assesses inmate/patient in a variety of settings. Identifies inmate/patient psychiatric problems and prescribes treatment under direction of a physician. Implements psychiatric care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by the physician. Provides education to inmate/patient health care and correctional staff. Documents all mental health care contacts
