General purpose: MICAs summer PreCollege Summer Intensive Program is a 2- 4 week intensive college-level experience designed to help participants make the leap from thinking like a high school art student to thinking like an artist making art that reflects a new level of skill and personal vision communicating ideas about art in daily critiques and building a professional portfolio of work. PreCollege is designed for rising juniors and conjunction with MICAs Mission and Vision our program provides a welcoming environment for all and values students of all races and ethnicities sexual orientations and expressions creative abilities religious faiths political affiliations and socio-economic backgrounds. Office Assistants assist all logistical components of the program serve in a supervisory role to PreCollege students model and facilitate a healthy welcoming community.

2026 Program Dates: Move In: June 30-July 1 2026. Training: July 6-July 10. Program Starts: July 12. Program Ends: August 8. Final Clean-up: August 8-11.

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Support all planning and logistical aspects of the PreCollege program through tasks centered on communication organization and general office management

  • Assist with the successful implementation of the PreCollege programming. The variety of tasks associated with this position involve administrative clerical physical supervisory organizational and leadership skills

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and communicating with families and guests about various needs or concerns

  • File work requests with MICA Facilities Management contact with urgent concerns

  • Collect organize and distribute all mail for students and staff

  • Collect copy/print jobs at Postal & Print

  • Organizing student files maintain confidentiality

  • Accompany and escort students to the health center walk-in clinics or emergency departments as necessary serving as an advocate and liaison for the student and communicating with PreCollege student guardians when such is being done.

  • Model implement and enforce Pre-College program policies rules and regulations

  • Assist Pro Staff with all planning and program tasks as needed

  • Assist with all student travel move-in and move-out activities including welcoming families assisting with moving items helping to clean rooms and answering any questions

  • Work with Pro Staff to ensure a safe and positive residential experience for students

  • Facilitate and encourage students to develop and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships personal wellness and providing support and guidance as needed

  • Model and enforce PreCollege program policies rules and regulations and act as an ambassador for the program

  • Perform other related duties as assigned especially when related to escorting or supervising students to an off campus location whether it be health care center (s) airport or train stations.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Provide excellent customer service both internally and externally

  • Ability to maintain excellent and mature judgment

  • Excellent written verbal and oral communication skills

  • Knowledge of MICAs campus equipment resources and inclusive community values

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with efficiency and accuracy

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled MICA Undergraduate student at time of employment

  • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Must be in good conduct standing with the college

  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in working with youth in a formal job setting or volunteer role

  • Previous experience in an office setting or with customer service

Compensation

  • 20-40 hours per week

  • $15 per hour

  • Housing is provided but optional meals provided while on shift for in-person program

Conditions of Employment

  • CJIS Fingerprint and background check

  • Available evenings and weekends

  • Must be present for the duration of training and program dates

  • Full availability for the dates above. Cannot hold other positions on campus for the duration of the program due to student employees being limited to 40 hours per week in the summer and demanding nature of the role

  • This position is contingent upon student enrollment in the PreCollege program
