The Jewish Content Coordinator brings ruach (spirit!) meaning and joyful Jewish learning to every part of camp life! This role is all about helping campers and staff experience Jewish values traditions and stories through creative activities songs art projects Shabbat celebrations and the fun spontaneous moments that make camp so special.
This is a part time position (25-30 hours a week).

The Bender Jewish Community Center in Rockville Maryland is a premier community center at the heart of Jewish life in Montgomery County operating a full-scale health and fitness center pre-school day camp and variety of education and arts programs.

We inspire individuals of all ages and backgrounds to enhance their social physical intellectual and spiritual well-being through programs of excellence rooted in Jewish values.
Core Responsibilities include:
Jewish Content Leadership
- Help campers and staff explore what being Jewish means to them in creative meaningful and age-appropriate ways regardless of their background.
- Create activities that connect Jewish values to everyday camp life through song story friendship and play.
- Coordinate with camp specialists and shaliach to implement Jewish content (Hebrew language Jewish values etc.) within their programming curriculum.
- Collaborate with camp leadership for staff engagement and camp wide events (Friday Special Events Shabbat Orientation week staff meetings etc.
- Act as a resource for staff and campers.
- Assist in implementation of camp wide mitzvah projects.
Camper Care and Engagement
- Supervise and engage with all participants (ages 4-21) in programs and activities while under the positions care.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations appropriately model behavior enthusiasm sense of humor patience and self-control and use positive behavior-management techniques.
- Work with the Adaptive Recreation Coordinator to ensure activities are accessible.
Preparation Planning and Organization
- Work directly with specialists/leadership team to plan activities.
- Submit written activity plans to the Associate Camp Director.
- Coordinate materials and supplies with the Associate Camp Director.
- Meet with Associate Camp Director weekly.
QualificationsQualifications include:
- Strong knowledge of Jewish culture values and traditions.
- Strong background in Jewish education.
- Experience in camp youth group or Jewish programming.
- Relevant higher educationpreferred
- Ability to get on the floor to participate and supervise activities.
- Ability to move equipment and supplies as required.
- Prior experience working with school aged children with all abilities.
- Ability to engage with campers and staff of all ages.
- Ability to adapt all planned activities to include children with disabilities
- Ability to engage with participants of all ages campers and staff
- Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards within the camp program.
- Strong written and spoken language skills.
- Ability to get to and from work each day.
- Be accepting of and sensitive to the diverse racial national sexual orientation gender identity abilities religious and cultural backgrounds of everyone at Lessans Camp JCC.
- Willingness to be flexible and adapt to changes in schedule responsibilities and Lessans Camp JCC activities as needed.
Priority will be given to candidates who are available the entire camp season starting on June 15 going through August 7.
Additional Information
The pay range for this position is $4100 - $5000 (total pay for the regular camp season) dependent on hours worked. Current educators relevant degree and advanced certification bonuses available.
