The University continues to uphold its mission of enhancing the quality of life and preserving protecting and interpreting First Nations peoples history language culture and artistic is a unique learning place specializing in Indigenous knowledge and providing post-secondary education for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students within a culturally supportive First Nations University of Canada is a federated college of the University of Regina and its academic programs are accredited through that values include wisdom respect humility sharing harmony beauty strength and part of the Student Success Services team and reporting to the Manager of the Career Centre the Career Advisor position plays a key role in supporting students in bridging employment barriers and gaining meaningful employment. The successful candidate will support students career and skill assessments career-readiness training and work towards enhancing job skills and resume writing. This position supports Student Success Services holistic approach to student transitions and development. This positions further contribute to FNUnivs mission by strengthening pathways to employment supporting labour market development and enhancing relationships with community and industry : Student Support Communicate and collaborate with internal and external students in career readiness activities such as mock interviews resume and cover letter development; individual and in group settings. Assist with employment related event planning for example career fairs and industry with Student Success Services student peer mentors/ ConnectionsAssist in the collaboration with faculty and academic units to understand work integrated learning within courses certificates micro-credentials and community-based delivery in the analysis of current program requirements and opportunities to grow WIL opportunities. Assist in the collaboration with FNUniv staff as needed to ensure that academic requirements are being met through WIL opportunities for example Academic Advising and the Registrars Office and lead celebrations of student employment readiness the WIL Coordinators with student placements as ConnectionsDevelop and maintain relationships with employers students and communities to learn about job opportunities. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build employment readiness training and opportunities. Collaborate with faculty staff students and communities to develop and sustain employment opportunities for FNUniv students. Program Quality & Reporting Market and promote Career Centre services to students. Assist with WIL risk management safety documentation placement agreements schedules and reporting requirements in alignment with university standards. Ensure strong data tracking and reporting to demonstrate impact and support program the development of digital resources for communications employment training and student professional judgment to resolve issues mediate challenges and adapt programming when and maintain strong relationships with Elders Knowledge Keepers and Cultural best practices in student employment training and program assessment are maintained. Qualifications:Post-secondary degree in Business Career Development Human Resources Education Indigenous Studies or a related working within the post-secondary considered an asset. Experience working with Indigenous students communities industry and/or organizations considered asset. Knowledge Skills And Abilities RequiredTechnical Skills:Working experience with Word Excel Access Intranet Internet to analyze course prerequisites certification and/or curriculum/graduation requirementsKnowledge of academic regulationsAbility to gather data compile information and prepare detailed reports on a timely basisAbility to maintain calendars and schedule appointments Skill in performing detailed numerical computationsAbility to communicate effectively both in written and verbal formNon-Technical Skills:Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word PowerPoint and Outlook) and able to adapt to new computer interpersonal skills with the ability to form genuine relationships and professional working alliances with internal and external stakeholders. Strategic thinking problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
