The Role
Responsible forcrashworthiness developmentand integrationfor occupant performancefor GM Vehicle Programs. Depending on the candidates engineering background the assignment might involveoccupant integration for side impactor forfrontal impact conditions. This engineer will lead engineering projects bydemonstratinginitiative creativity independent judgment and project management throughout the vehicle development process and willprovide technical direction while working with multiple functional groups.
What Youll Do
Understand and apply GM Safety CAE standard work procedures for delivering quality models and simulation results. Utilize GM Safety CAE standard work procedures for all simulations andensure high quality models
Perform Computer Aided Engineering simulations to evaluateoccupantperformance for high-speed Frontal Side load casesincludingrestraints balancing/development for Occupant protectionusing LS-DYNA software.
UsingCAE to lead the vehicle designgeneratefeasibleandtimelyvehicle design recommendations and technical solutions to meet safety performance targets for the vehicle program as documented in the Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS). Balance safety requirements based on the results of crash simulations for the major safety load cases with other performance requirements.
Work with engineering functions program teams suppliersmanufacturingand others to implement design changes asrequiredto achieve vehicle performance.
Use advanced CAE tools and methods (Variation Study/DOE/DFSS/MDO) tooptimizeperformance.
Plan prepareexecuteand analyzepost-testresultsfortestingat the Vehicle Proving Grounds. Interpret measurements conduct analysis and compareCAE to test communicate resultsand proactivelycollaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and verify solutions.
Work withglobal teams in acollaborative environment.
Present performancestatusatappropriate forums
Demonstrate GM Core Values and Behaviors.
Some travel to Milford Proving Grounds to support testing when required
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelors Degree in engineeringfroman (ABET) accredited University
5 years of relevant experience
Working knowledge of CAEand Validationtools LS-DYNA PRIMER METAPOST ANSA HYPERWORKS or other CAE tools
Knowledge of engineering theory and application in automotive development
Willingnessto learn new skills and adapt expeditiously
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
High levelof analytical ability to solve challenging problems and to integrate complex systems
Knowledge of statistical and optimization tools and techniques
High levelof interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Excellentverbaland written communication skills
Ability for local travel
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Masters or PhDinEngineeringfroman (ABET) accredited University: MechanicalBiomechanicsAero Civil Materials Applied Physics.
5 years ofdemonstratedproficiencywith CAE or related engineering experience (DRE validation lab).
Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Global Safety Requirements and Standards
Working knowledge of UnigraphicsTeamCenter andVisMockup
Proficiencyin Microsoft Office Suite and performance integration related applications
