Job Summary

Job Title: Accompanist (Part-Time)

Department: Fine Arts

Report to: Choir Director or Building Principal/Activities Director

Classification: Non-Exempt (hourly)

Work Schedule: Approximately 15 hours per week; schedule varies based on rehearsals

performances and the school calendar

Work Year: School year (plus evening/weekend events as scheduled)

Salary: As determined by the Board and district pay schedule (position typically

not benefit-eligible due to part-time hours)

Summary

The Accompanist supports Maryville R-II music programs by providing high-quality piano accompaniment for rehearsals performances contests and other activities. This role collaborates closely with music staff and students to strengthen musical skills prepare repertoire and ensure successful performances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Provide piano accompaniment for choral ensembles soloists small ensembles and/or instrumental rehearsals as assigned.

Accompany concerts festivals contests auditions ceremonies and other performances (including occasional evenings/weekends).

Prepare assigned music in advance demonstrating accuracy in rhythm tempo style and musical expression.

Work with the director(s) to establish rehearsal priorities tempos cuts repeats and interpretation.

Assist students with musical preparation including entrances diction/phrasing support and stylistic considerations when appropriate.

Maintain a professional rehearsal environment and demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.

Communicate effectively with directors regarding scheduling needs music availability and rehearsal/performance plans.

Support and follow all district policies and procedures including confidentiality and student safety expectations.

Complete required time records and other employment documentation as required for non-exempt employees.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties

Collaborate with choir directors building principals and the activities director to provide supervision and oversight of students as needed.

Qualifications

Strong piano performance skills including sight-reading and the ability to accompany varied levels of student musicians.

Ability to collaborate effectively with students directors and staff.

Dependable organized and able to manage multiple pieces of repertoire simultaneously.

Ability to maintain professional conduct and positive relationships with students and staff.

Ability to pass required background checks and employment screenings.

Preferred

Prior experience accompanying school ensembles soloists or community ensembles.

Coursework or degree in music (piano performance music education collaborative piano or related field).

Familiarity with vocal/instrumental coaching and standard contest/festival repertoire.

Ability to work in an environment that is noisy and active.
