Job Summary

Reports To; Fire Systems Supervisor

Duty Days: 260 Days

Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: A05 - 8HR

Qualifications:

College hours high school diploma or GED (preferred)

Texas Drivers License

Fire Extinguisher License Type B Portables or able to acquire within 6 months of employment

Type K Cooking systems license or able to acquire within 1 year of employment

Physically able to lift 50 pounds

Ability to read write and speak English proficiently

Primary Purpose:

Help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Inspect service maintain repair and install fire extinguishers and fire hoses.
  2. Must be able to clean recharge extinguishers.
  3. Perform repair and/or new work as requested on approved work order request and maintain worklog with campus location and services.
  4. Assist other department staff when requested by supervisor.
  5. Take all safety precautions related to all trades and report to Maintenance Supervisor any hazardous situations.
  6. May be required to work overtime or alternate work schedules.
  7. Assist with Fire Marshal inspections.
  8. Assist with emergency response to fire alarm calls.
  9. Attend CEU training to maintain license.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Multimeter and other department specialty testing equipment; soldering iron; wire puller; pipe benders and threaders; hand and power tools (saw drills etc.); trencher; ladder. Light truck or van.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Continual walking standing climbing stooping bending kneeling reaching and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions around electrical power lines outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent districtwide travel.
