Overview:
The Senior Business Planning Analyst for Downstream Midstream & Chemicals (DMC) partners with Finance Strategy and DMC business value chains to develop and deliver an annual five-year capital and business plan planning outputs and leadership materials. The role serves as a planning/finance subject matter expert consolidates and quality-checks plan submissions in corporate planning tools supports development of longer-range outlooks (including 20-year forecasting) and helps integrate competitive performance insights and initiatives into the annual business plan. This role sits at the center of DMCs business and capital planning ecosystem. Success in this position enables clearer planning expectations stronger financial and competitive insights and higherquality decision support for DMC leadership.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
1) Annual Business Plan Development & Consolidation
- Serve as the Business and Capital Planning Subject Matter Expert (SME) and coordinator for DMC providing endtoend ownership of DMC planning processes.
- Develop maintain and communicate DMC planning guidelines assumptions and expectations in alignment with enterprise planning direction.
- Own the annual DMC business and capital planning calendar coordinating milestones deliverables and dependencies across stakeholders.
- Provide ongoing guidance and interpretation of planning processes and requirements responding to questions from DMC businesses and functions.
- Partner with Finance teams across DMC (and aligned organizations) to develop the annual five-year business plan and supporting materials.
- Consolidate DMC business value chain plans and develop summary presentations for leadership reviews.
- Coordinate plan submission quality checks and follow-ups to ensure plans meet expectations for timeliness completeness and internal consistency.
2) Finance & Planning Integration
- Serve as a Finance SME to the DMC planning team ensuring financial rigor and consistency across planning submissions and planning tools/systems.
- Partner with Finance and related teams to ensure alignment of business plans with financial targets capital frameworks and enterprise assumptions.
3) Executive Communications & Materials
- Lead the development and delivery of executivelevel presentation materials and communication packages for senior leadership.
- Translate complex planning outputs assumptions and tradeoffs into clear concise narratives suitable for executive audiences.
- Coordinate messaging across planning cycles to ensure consistency and clarity of DMC planning storylines.
4) Competitive Performance & Benchmarking
- Support competitive goal setting for DMC business line value chains.
- Conduct benchmarking of the DMC business plan versus external competitors identifying performance gaps trends and improvement opportunities.
- Integrate competitive insights into planning materials to inform leadership discussions and strategic decisions.
5) CrossFunctional Collaboration
- Build strong working relationships across DMC businesses Finance and Strategy to drive alignment and timely delivery of planning outputs.
- Act as a connector across functions proactively identifying issues dependencies and risks within the planning process.
Some travel (less than 15% intl and domestic) may be required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Finance Economics or Engineering
- 5 years experience in Finance or Planning roles developing business plans or forecasts including income statements balance sheets cash flow statements and key performance indicators.
- Demonstrated experience developing executivelevel presentations and communications.
- Proven ability to operate as a subject matter expert providing guidance and influencing outcomes without direct authority.
- Strong analytical organizational and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA
- Experience with Refining or Chemicals industries
- Experience with Anaplan software
