This position will support the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) Operation Contract (NOC) which is looking for an entry-level Engineer to join the NOC Engineering team in Houston this role the candidate will be responsible for running multiple projects from Estimation and fabrication to final Acceptance. The candidate will have but is not limited to the following responsibilities:
DESCRIPTION:
- Design and Engineer products used to support training Astronauts at the NBL include planning conceptualizing and creating designs for suited subject use at the NBL.
- Perform any Engineering function as needed such as 3D modeling drafting and stress analysis (FEA).
- Perform estimations for new projects based on training requirements and objectives.
- Conduct necessary communications with NASA clients to ensure clarification and meet specific requirements in a timely manner for assigned projects.
- Evaluate and assess technical issues and determine proper resolutions either through trade studies or assessments. Provide alternatives for resolving these issues to Contract Management & NASA Program Management.
- Reverse engineer previously built items when required to integrate new hardware when needed.
- Maintain budgets and project schedules and convey any adjustments according to needs.
- Track performance and completion of requirements.
- Document and report project progress to the supervisor and stakeholders on a weekly basis.
- Collaborate with the fabrication team to resolve any design issues.
- Maintain mandatory training status.
Required Skills:
- 1-5 years of project management project engineering or project planning experience or advance degree in a related field.
- Excellent knowledge of design and visualizations software (Creo/Solid Works/AutoCad).
- Time management and organization skills
- Advanced MS Office skills
- Oral and written technical communication skills.
- Performing estimation processes for new projects based on given requirements.
- Plan conceptualize and create designs for new projects or upgrades.
- Conduct necessary communications with Group Lead and Chief Engineer to ensure clarification and meet specific requirements in a timely manner.
- Evaluate and assess technical issues determine proper resolutions either through trade studies or assessments. Provide alternatives for resolving these issues to the Group Lead and Chief Engineer.
- Reverse engineer previously built items if required and determine suitable replacements.
- Maintain budgets labor resources and project schedules and convey any adjustments according to needs as they arise.
- Track performance and completion of multiple projects to stakeholders on a weekly basis.
- Perform Engineering analyses as needed.
- Collaborate with the fabrication team to resolve any design issues in the shop.
- Maintain mandatory trainings status.
- Support weekly Engineering status meetings.
- Present design and project status reviews as required to the customer
Desired Skills:
- Familiar with NBL/NASA rules regulations best practices and performance standards.
- Proficiency in professional scheduling software (Primavera P6 Microsoft Project PWA etc).
- Excellent Oral and written technical communication skills.
- Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory SCUBA certified or willingness to obtain one is preferred but not required
Education / Certifications:
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field (Electrical/Aeronautical)
