Job Summary

Position Summary:

The University of Dayton School of Law is seeking the next Assistant Dean of Inclusive Excellence to begin July 1 2026.

The Assistant Dean of Inclusive Excellence will lead efforts and provide guidance in advancing inclusive excellence within the School of Law in alignment with the University of Daytons Marianist mission and Flyer Plan for Excellence which emphasizes the dignity of every person solidarity community and social justice. The Assistant Dean will help cultivate a welcoming and supportive environment in which students faculty and staff from a wide range of backgrounds experience belonging and are able to thrive.

These duties include the traditional on-campus J.D. program the hybrid J.D. program and the Law Schools online and in-person M.S.L. and LL.M. programs.

The Assistant Dean of Inclusive Excellence will report directly to the Dean of the School of Law.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the School of Law and the University on initiatives related to inclusive excellence cultural competence and fostering a community grounded in the dignity of every person and belonging.
  • Support efforts to recruit and retain a diverse faculty (permanent visiting and adjunct) and staff consistent with the Universitys commitment to inclusive excellence cultural competence and fostering a community grounded in the dignity of every person and belonging.
  • Identify and help implement educational programming and professional development opportunities that promote cultural competence respect for the dignity of every person and practices that foster belonging among law school administrators faculty staff and students including programming beginning at Orientation.
  • Collaborate with law school administrators faculty staff and students on issues involving inclusive excellence cultural competence and fostering a community grounded in the dignity of every person and belonging.
  • Assist with the implementation of the law schools contributions to the Universitys 18-Unit Strategic Plan and Flyer Plan for Excellence.
  • Provide mentoring guidance and support for students particularly those who may benefit from additional support in navigating legal education and professional development.
  • Monitor national trends peer institution initiatives and emerging practices related to inclusive excellence cultural competence the dignity of every person and belonging in legal education.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Full-time faculty member or full-time staff member at the School of Law.
  • Track record of maintaining confidentiality in student and personnel matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty staff and students concerning sensitive matters.
  • History of effectively working in cooperation with diverse groups and individuals
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to Catholic Marianist values and to the Universitys Mission on diversity and inclusion.
  • Student-facing leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Student-facing leadership experience at a law school
  • Knowledge of best practices for fostering inclusive excellence and cultural competency among faculty students and staff.
  • Experience providing programming for students faculty and/or staff.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Effective classroom management skills
  • Commitment to breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition and a commitment of service to the community university and profession
