Your Role: We are looking for an experienced hands-on tech operative to join The Sun Video team supporting fast-paced studio and live production workflows.

This role suits someone who thrives in a practical technical environment - comfortable switching live output managing studio operations and keeping recording and distribution running smoothly. Youll work closely with producers and presenters bringing strong organisational skills calm problem-solving and a proactive approach to day-to-day delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

vMix Operation & Studio Switching

  • Self-Operate Vision Mixing: Act as the sole technical operator during breaking news and daily programming using vMix smoothly switching PTZ cameras and cueing b-roll/VTs.

  • Live Graphics: Update and fire lower-thirds breaking news tickers and on-screen sources on the fly during the recording/stream to match the editorial flow.

  • Broadcast & Record: Manage the primary record-as-live workflow for fast upload while being fully prepared to execute short rapid-response live streams directly to multiple platforms when news breaks.

Audio & Remote Guest Integration

  • Guest Routing: Independently route in remote experts and reporters (via vMix Call or ) ensuring reliable connections and managing mix-minus audio feeds so guests hear the studio without echo.

  • A/V Quality Control: Monitor and adjust studio lighting presets PTZ camera framing and audio levels for the host and guests ensuring our speech-first audio is crisp and punchy.

Workflow Distribution & Asset Management

  • Ingest & Handoff: Serve as the primary manager of the studio recording workflow ensuring all media is correctly captured named and handed off for immediate distribution or light post-production.

  • Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform daily health checks on studio equipment (cameras mics lights comms). Provide calm rapid troubleshooting if technical issues arise.

  • Inventory & Kit Bookings: Manage the broader equipment inventory for The Suns video team. Act as the point of contact for external kit bookings resolving scheduling conflicts and ensuring gear is checked in/out properly.

  • Studio Standards: Maintain a clean safe and highly organized workspace strictly adhering to all safety protocols.

What were looking for from you:

  • Vision mixer with self-operating experience switching cameras managing graphics and cueing playouts

  • Basic technical knowledge of cameras lighting and audio equipment required to make on-set adjustments

  • Basic understanding of video production workflows with podcasting/streaming experience with VMix OBS or similar preferred

  • Essential organisational skills to be primary manager of recording and distribution workflow and inventory management

  • Good editorial judgement to aid producer/presenter on set

  • Perform equipment checks and some basic troubleshooting

  • Keep a clean and tidy workspace

  • Strong communication and teamworking skills

  • Proactive problem-solving and calm under pressure

  • Ability to work flexible hours with evening work essential

  • Must adhere to safety protocols

  • Can manage kit bookings for wider The Sun video team as an additional secondary assignment often requiring organisational problem solving
