We invite online applications from our sworn members for a position as a Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) Investigator.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under the direction of the NCO i/c CASA the incumbent will coordinate and conduct investigations arrest offenders and prepare cases for court in relation to child abuse sexual assault and other incidents as assigned. Work as a part of an investigative team in relation to major protracted investigations. Conduct lectures and disseminate information to members concerning sexual assaults.
Shall in the performance of duties respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Primarily investigate incidents relating to sexual assault and offences against childrenin addition to other incidents as assigned
- Thorough understanding of relevant legislation regulations and Policy & Procedures as it pertains to duties performed
- Considerable liaison with all levels of the organization members of the judiciary Crown Attorneys Court support and other Police and municipal agencies
- Research prepare and present reports pertaining to specific Service-related issues
- Participate in various committees as required
- Carry out duties in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Community Safety and Policing Act 2019 and other lawful assignments
- Be accountable to supervision
- Perform such other duties as are lawfully assigned

Knowledge
- Working knowledge of all pertinent legislationas it pertains to duties performed
- A thorough understanding and good working knowledge of criminal investigative procedures related to Major Case Management
- A thorough understanding and good working knowledge of the organizational structure Routine Orders Policy and Procedures and practices within the Service as it pertains to duties performed
Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong interviewing skills
- Case management skills
- Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills
- Proficient in the use of computer software utilized by the Brantford Police Service (i.e. CAD RMS Niche Microsoft Word SmartSquad and PowerPoint)
Abilities
- Ability to exercise good judgment and make good decisions
- Ability to deal with sensitive issues relating to victims
- Be creative in problem-solving and a solution-oriented individual
- Flexible and tolerant of changing job duties
- Ability to prepare clear concise and accurate reports
- Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of comprehension and to handle the public with courtesy and authority
- Must be capable of handling multi-tasks produce work under strict and definitive deadlines
- All other qualifications the position justifies
