Minimum Job Requirements
- Posses one of the following:
- oProof of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program
- oNursing Degree: ASN BSN
- oLPN license from Florida - must maintain certification active and in good standing throughout employment.
- oParamedic or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license from Florida - must maintain certification active and in good standing throughout employment.
- oCurrent Medical Assistant Certification: must maintain certification active and in good standing throughout employment.
- oCertified Nursing Assistant (excluded in primary care sites) from Florida
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of Medical Assistant experience and current Medical Assistant Certification (OR) must have a minimum of 5 years of medical assistant experience and at least one of the above required licenses/certifications (CNA LPN EMT Paramedic) or proof of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program
- American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- High School education or equivalent preferred.
- Fluent in both English and Spanish highly preferred.
- 1-2 years of physician office experience preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience coordinating clinical care for patients preferred.
- Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer and math skills.
- Excellent patient management customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem solving critical thinking and conflict resolution skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and strong time management skills.

Job Summary
The Float Pool Medical Assistant requires travel across NCPS offices in main campus multi-specialty centers throughout Dade and Broward counties. Provides comprehensive support in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of physicians and/or clinicians across multiple care settings. The float pool medical assistant is a highly adaptable position as they support multiple areas in primary care medical offices and surgical offices as needed. This role requires additional training through multiple areas and versatile skills to adapt to the unique workflows procedures and patient care demands of various addition to clinical responsibilities the float pool medical assistant plays a critical role in patient care management by performing diverse administrative functions ensuring seamless coverage and high-quality care across multiple divisions and locations.
Job Specific Duties
- Answers telephones routes calls takes and relays accurate phone messages.
- Prepares and administers medications to patients as directed by provider.
- For primary care Medical Assistants; prepares and administers immunizations to patients as directed by provider.
- Communicates all significant changes in patient conditions or behavior to clinicians and physicians.
- Ensures all medical record/patient charts contains necessary documentation for medical appointments. Completes charting collects and distributes medical record documents related to patient.
- Gathers data for general information special reports contacting other employees departments agencies and individuals for additional material. May prepare reports for provider approval.
- Maintains/prepares billing charge and reconciliation assist in completing claims forms and answers patient questions in reference to payment status.
- Runs reports for credit cards super bills and etc. Prepares final bookkeeping of assigned cash drawer and prepares and makes timely deposits.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area and patient rooms.
- Operates and maintains equipment in proper working condition/order. Ensures medical supplies and inventory are maintained.
- Performs and documents vital signs and measurements. Provides and documents patient and family education.
- Assists physician with simple procedures and patient transport. Collects specimens and distributes to laboratory for results.
- Prepares for patient visits by preparing /pulling charts printing super bills and informing physician and other clinical staff of changes in schedule.
- Schedules appointments diagnostic therapeutic verifies medical appointments obtains and/or verifies authorizations.
- Processes medical documentation for office visit and follow-up with patient when required.
- Tracks all samples per policy before providing to patients to ensure proper coordination with physician orders or requests.
- Enters electronic order for lab x-ray and medication/prescriptions for provider review and approval in electronic medical record.
- For primary care Medical Assistants; prepares and administers immunizations to patients as directed by provider.
- Processes refills as directed by provider and written protocols.
- Performs diagnostic tests and procedures as directed (e.g. EKGs holter monitor placement pulse oximetry spirometry point-of-care testing glucose checks injections Phlebotomy)
- Supports front office and administrative functions as needed including check-in/check-out and referrals. Cross-training to registrar role provided.
