Position:
Head of Teaching and Learning
Scope
The Head of Teaching and Learning serves as the chief academic and instructional leader of Christian Academy School System. This position provides strategic vision leadership oversight and accountability for curriculum instruction assessment professional development and academic services across the IN and KY campuses (JA12). The Head of Teaching and Learning ensures that teaching and learning throughout the system reflect academic excellence biblical worldview immersion instructional coherence operational efficiency and continuous improvement aligned with the mission and Statement of Faith of Christian Academy. This position requires travel between system offices and the Indiana and Kentucky campuses.
Qualifications
The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:
- A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit
- A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
- Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith for Christian Academy
- Agreement and belief that the Bible is the final authority concerning truth morality and the proper conduct of mankind
The ideal candidate shall possess:
- Masters degree in Education required; Curriculum & Instruction preferred; Relevant experience a plus
- Minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience
- Minimum of three years of administrative or academic leadership experience
- Eligibility for ACSI certification and/or state certification
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Deep knowledge of curriculum design instructional best practices and assessment systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop adult teams
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Academic Vision & Strategic Alignment
- Develop and articulate a cohesive JA12 instructional philosophy aligned with the schools mission and Statement of Faith
- Lead implementation of the academic components of the systems strategic and continuous improvement plans
- Serve as chief advisor to the Superintendent on academic matters
- Establish system-wide instructional expectations and a common language
Curriculum Leadership & Review
- Supervise curriculum development and review processes
- Implement and oversee a five- to seven-year curriculum review cycle
- Set biblical purpose statements for content areas under review
- Maintain curriculum textbook and instructional resource budgets
- Oversee curriculum mapping processes and documentation standards
- Coordinate adoption of textbooks curriculum software and instructional resources
Instructional Excellence & Coaching
- Supervise and lead instructional coaches and curriculum specialists
- Establish coaching frameworks and instructional best practices
- Ensure instructional alignment across campuses and grade levels
- Remain current on research-based instructional strategies
Assessment & Data Systems
- Oversee evaluation communication and utilization of all system-wide data points (academic and non-academic)
- Supervise data personnel and ensure the integrity of reporting systems
- Ensure data is used effectively to drive classroom instruction and academic improvement
- Develop and present academic dashboards and reports to the Executive Leadership Team and Board as appropriate
Professional Development
- Develop and oversee a three-year professional development plan updated annually
- Maintain balanced budgeting for professional learning initiatives
- Provide leadership for training that equips teachers to integrate a biblical worldview into all content areas
- Oversee the Called to Teach induction program for new faculty
Educational Resources & Student Support
- Supervise the Academic Services team including technology integration specialists
- Supervise the Director of Media Services and oversee the system media centers
- Supervise the Director of Educational Resources and provide oversight for student support programming including NILD and other contracted and non-contracted services
Christian Worldview & Unity
- Partner with the Director of Spiritual Formation to ensure biblical immersion across the curriculum and instruction
- Partner with the Director of Unity and Diversity to ensure appropriate emphasis on biblical unity throughout curriculum and programming
- Ensure faculty are trained to assess spiritual formation within academic contexts
Faculty Evaluation & Leadership Development
- Oversee the instructional framework and implementation of a faculty evaluation system that promotes professional growth and instructional excellence in partnership with Human Resources and campus leadership
- Build leadership capacity among instructional leaders and coaches
- Maintain high standards of professionalism morale and mission alignment among faculty and staff
External Engagement & Innovation
- Network with Christian schools administrators associations and accrediting bodies
- Remain current on academic innovation and emerging educational trends
- Recommend initiatives that improve instructional quality and system effectiveness
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strategic thinking with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans
- Strong organizational and systems leadership capacity
- Budget oversight and resource management skills
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex academic data
- Exceptional interpersonal and team leadership skills
