Job Description

This position will support projects studying the impacts of forest management and fires on snowpack soil properties and other aspects of hydrology. Specific duties will include field measurements of vegetation snow and soil properties data entry and verification and installation of monitoring equipment. It may also involve some laboratory soil science work under close supervision. The research assistant will be responsible for keeping track of their hours and reporting to their supervisor on a weekly basis if not more.

Required Qualifications :

  • Undergraduate degree in environmental science geology biology or related field.

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.

  • Sufficient physical fitness and outdoor experience to safely work outdoors in steep terrain for up to 8 hours/day in potentially hot or snowy conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous research experience.

  • Training related to soil science and/or hydrology.

Compensation Grade

$22/hr

Schedule

16 hours/week

Physical Requirements

Ability to work outdoors in mountainous terrain including in snow for up to 8 hours/day and traveling on foot up to 5 miles/day.
