Secondary Systems Electrical Engineer

About the Role

Our client an industry-leading EPC is seeking a skilled and motivated Secondary Systems Electrical Engineer to join their NSW Engineering team. Specializing in utility-scale projects across NSW QLD and SA their focus lies in delivering high-quality engineering solutions for transmission and substation projects. This includes secondary engineering disciplines such as protection and control SCADA substation auxiliary systems and associated electrical studies.

This role will be based in their Sydney office offering hybrid work arrangements with occasional client and site visits. Youll join a collaborative in-house engineering team that thrives on technical innovation and excellence contributing to primary design and construction delivery.

Key Responsibilities

As a Secondary Systems Electrical Engineer you will:

  • Deliver and contribute to secondary systems engineering for utility-scale transmission and substation projects.
  • Perform and review electrical studies: earthing lighting lightning LV systems and cable calculations.
  • Develop and review protection and control philosophies protection settings and associated documentation.
  • Support SCADA automation and communication interfaces for substations.
  • Ensure designs comply with Transgrid standards Australian Standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with primary engineers design partners and project teams to ensure coordinated and successful project delivery.
  • Provide technical engineering support during construction and commissioning phases.

What Were Looking For

To excel in this role you will bring:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (or an equivalent qualification).
  • Proven experience in secondary systems protection and control SCADA or substation electrical studies.
  • Familiarity with HV/LV substation environments and knowledge of regulated utility standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving proficiency.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Experience in the following will be highly regarded:

  • Working with Transgrid or other Transmission Network Service Providers (TNSPs).
  • Protection relay programming configuration or testing.
  • SCADA and automation system integration expertise.

  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to create and review secondary systems designs.
  • Conducting electrical studies and ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and project requirements.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical documentation including protection and control philosophies.
  • Supporting SCADA and automation system integration in transmission and substation projects.
  • Facilitating effective communication with clients project teams and stakeholders to drive successful outcomes.
  • Engaging in technical problem-solving and offering solutions during construction and commissioning phases.
