Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students every day. Burlington High School is seeking dedicated Paraeducators who are passionate about supporting student learning fostering inclusion and collaborating with educators to help all students succeed.
The Burlington School District is seeking Paraeducators for Burlington High School to support students and classroom instruction. Under the direction of a supervising teacher or administrator the Paraeducator assists in providing instructional support to individual students and small groups within assigned educational programs. This role supports students in achieving the goals and objectives outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) while also attending to students academic social and physical needs.
Support Student Development and Learning
Provide instructional support to students individually or in small groups to reinforce classroom instruction.
Assist students in working toward goals outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Encourage student engagement by asking open-ended questions and guiding students through academic tasks and activities.
Support student communication and language development through active interaction and modeling.
Use positive behavior management strategies to support student success.
Develop an understanding of high school students developmental needs behaviors and motivations.
Collaborate with the Teaching Team
Assist teachers and professional staff in supervising students in classrooms and other school environments.
Help prepare instructional materials and organize classrooms for daily activities.
Assist with the collection recording and organization of student data as directed by professional staff.
Provide general classroom and administrative support to maintain an effective learning environment.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
At least two years of post-secondary education or successful completion of the Praxis Paraeducator exam
Preferred
Coursework in a related field such as education psychology human development or a related discipline
Associates or Bachelors degree
Experience
Experience in education or a related field preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with students families and school staff.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Work environments may include classrooms offices outdoor areas or other school-based environments.
Occasional exposure to varying weather conditions and elevated noise levels.
Physical ability to assist students including lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds when necessary.
Ability to safely assist or restrain a student when required in accordance with district training and protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications include but not limited to: high school diploma plus at least 2 years additional education; minimum of two years experience in education or related field; ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with students parents and school staff.
SALARY:
As per theMaster Agreementbetween the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Paraeducators of the Burlington School District.
In addition to the base rate of pay. Intensive Needs Paras will receive a premium for hours worked directly with intensive special needs (ISN) students of $4.00 per hour.
BENEFITS:
Health and life insurance benefits are available for this position after a period of 45 working days. Dental benefits are available after 1 full working year.
