Job Summary

Job Description:

  • Works with the psychiatric provider staff and mental health staff to determine patients in need of involuntary treatment.
  • Observes patients identified as needing involuntary treatment for symptoms of mental illness including danger to self danger to others or symptoms indicating that the patient is persistently or acutely disabled or gravely disabled.
  • Completes petition applications for involuntary court-ordered treatment and coordinates with outpatient teams to initiate the petitioning process.
  • Testifies in court about observed patient behaviors.
  • Identifies patients who are on a court order for involuntary treatment and makes that information available to provider staff.
  • Assists provider staff in coordinating care with patients outpatient clinic.
  • Participates in other clinical duties as identified by the Chief of Psychiatry.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum two years of past work experience in this position.



Required Skills:

Conduct patient evaluations histories and physical exams for new and follow-up cardiology patients Manage and monitor patients with cardiovascular conditions such as hypertension coronary artery disease atrial fibrillation heart failure and hyperlipidemia Order and interpret diagnostic tests including EKGs Holter monitors echocardiograms and stress tests Assist in care coordination for procedures or specialty referrals Provide inpatient cardiology consults and follow-ups (if applicable) Participate in hospital rounds discharge planning and transitions of care Educate patients and families on lifestyle changes medications and disease management Collaborate closely with supervising cardiologists primary care providers and support staff


Required Education:

Current and unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in Hawaii or eligibility to obtain one National certification (AANP ANCC or NCCPA) BLS and ACLS certification required 12 years cardiology or internal medicine experience preferred; strong new graduates with relevant rotations or RN cardiology background considered Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Comfortable working independently with physician support EMR experience
