Job Title: Science and Social Justice Teacher (Dual Content) Evening School (YouthBuild Philly Flex)

Hours of Operation:
The YouthBuild Evening School Program (YouthBuild Philly Flex) operates on an evening schedule designed for students who work during the day. This role is part-time and requires availability during evening instructional hours typically 4:00 PM 9:00 PM along with occasional additional time for planning professional development and student events.
New Staff Orientation is held August 13 2026 & August 14 2026.
YouthBuild Orientation (First Day of School) is August 24-27 2026.
Who We Are:
YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition free public charter high school serving young people ages 1720 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. Our program supports students in earning a high school diploma while gaining career exposure industry certifications and postsecondary pathways. YouthBuild operates within a restorative community centered culture grounded in respect excellence and perseverance. The Evening School (YouthBuild Philly Flex) is a new program designed for students who are working during the day and need a flexible pathway to earn their diploma and build a career path.
The Opportunity:
This is a dual teaching role. The Science and Social Justice Teacher teaches both Science and Social Justice courses across the school year typically one semester in each content area. We strongly prefer candidates with Science certification as science instruction is the primary certification need for the Evening School.
The teacher creates a relationship driven classroom focused on inquiry real world connections and skill development for young adults returning to school. Evening School teachers work in a highly collaborative environment and support students who are balancing work life responsibilities and school. This role requires flexibility strong relationship building and a commitment to helping students persist and graduate.

- A current PA teaching certification in Science & Social Studies 7-12
Highly preferred
- Experience teaching social justice content preferred
- Three or more years of teaching experience preferred
- Experience working with opportunity youth or alternative education settings preferred
Start-of-Year Planning & Orientation:
Prior to the start of the school year the Evening School Science/Social Justice Teacher will participate in onboarding orientation and collaborative planning to prepare for the launch of the Evening School Program.
This includes:
- Participating in new staff orientation and professional development
- Collaborating with school leadership and colleagues to understand program structures schedules and student supports
- Engaging in curriculum planning and unit preparation prior to the start of instruction
- Preparing classroom systems materials and expectations for the start of the school year
What You Will Do:
- Teach both Science and Social Justice courses during the school year (approximately half year in each content area)
- Design engaging learner centered units connected to real world issues and career pathways
- Build a classroom culture rooted in respect high expectations and student voice
- Use flexible instructional strategies that support varied attendance and pacing
- Track student progress give frequent actionable feedback to students
- Collaborate with the specialized services team to ensure student success by providing teacher input attending IEP meetings and ensuring all students receive accommodations and modifications per their students IEPs and/or English language needs

- Facilitate one section of independent study hall per day providing a structured supportive environment where students can focus on academic tasks access guidance as needed and develop effective study habits while ensuring a quiet and productive atmosphere
- Support communication with students and families about progress and expectations
- Provide mentorship to a cohort of 45 students offering consistent academic and personal support to help them stay on track toward meeting graduation requirements
- Participate in team meetings professional learning and cross team planning
- Contribute to a collaborative startup culture and continuous improvement of the Evening School program
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Evening School Principal
