Health/Physical Education Teacher (Northview High School grades 9-12 1.0 FTE)
Job Summary:
The High School Health/Physical Education (PE) Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging developmentally appropriate physical education lessons to students in grades 9-12. The teacher will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes physical fitness teamwork and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Physical Education Kinesiology or a related field.
Certification:
- Valid Michigan secondary teaching certification in Health and Physical Education (i.e. MX or MC or MA/MB).
- Additional National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certification preferred
Experience:
- Previous experience teaching high school students is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of physical education principles and practices.
- Willing to obtain necessary certification for Michigan Health Educators.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in using technology for teaching and assessment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate physical activities and fitness exercises.
- Capability to stand walk and participate in physical activities for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move equipment as necessary.
Working Conditions:
- Work primarily takes place in a gymnasium outdoor fields and other athletic facilities.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for events and extracurricular activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Lesson Planning and Delivery:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive PE curriculum that aligns with state and national standards.
- Design and deliver dynamic and varied lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and physical abilities.
- Incorporate a variety of physical activities including team sports individual exercises and fitness routines.
Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain a safe and respectful classroom environment.
- Manage student behavior effectively promoting positive interactions and resolving conflicts as needed.
- Ensure students adhere to safety rules and proper use of equipment.
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Assess students physical abilities skills and progress through formal and informal methods.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to encourage improvement and development.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and report progress to parents and guardians.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with colleagues including other PE teachers classroom teachers and school staff.
- Communicate effectively with parents providing updates on student progress and addressing any concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings professional development opportunities and school events.
Professional Growth:
- Stay current with best practices in physical education through continuous professional development.
- Reflect on teaching practices and seek feedback for continuous improvement.
- Support school-wide physical activity initiatives and health programs.
Terms:
- This position follows the terms and benefits outlined in the Northview Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement and is evaluated annually by building administration.
