Position Summary

Reporting to the Procurement Manager the Packaging Buyer is responsible for ensuring the appropriate level of packaging materials to support manufacturing operations. This role plays a key part in supplier management cost control sourcing new materials and cross-functional collaboration to support production efficiency and business goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor inventory levels of packaging materials and place purchase orders aligned with production forecasts and company standards

• Source new packaging materials as needed; support bid requests and assist with price negotiations

• Evaluate supplier performance related to pricing service and delivery

• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships; consolidate vendors where appropriate

• Coordinate closely with Production Marketing and other departments to ensure correct materials are available at the right time and location

• Support new packaging initiatives including size design and specification changes

• Maintain accurate vendor files including pricing specifications lead times and service levels

• Execute approved purchase contracts and inventory transfers

• Monitor market conditions that may impact packaging costs and report findings as needed

• Provide backup support for other buyers to ensure uninterrupted procurement operations

• Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

• Ability to collaborate across departments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

• Knowledge of or willingness to learn food labeling laws

• Organized detail-oriented and proactive problem solver

Education & Experience

• Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Business or a related field preferred but not required

• 35 years of experience in purchasing supply chain or procurement

• Experience supporting a manufacturing environment required

• Experience in food manufacturing strongly preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Office-based role within a food manufacturing environment

• Moderate noise level

• Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods

• Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
