SUMMARY:
The Mayors Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City governments chief financial agency. OMBs staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayors expense and capital budgets which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.
The Data & Systems Unit within the Managed Grants Task Force is responsible for governing the Citys grants Management System (GMS) as well as several ancillary City State and Federal systems that contribute data as part of the larger recovery effort. The Insurance and Contract Administration Unit is responsible for management of the Citys compliance with FEMA insurance requirements management of risk management/modeling and various programmatic issues.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Support the Citys disaster recovery projects and learn the basics of grant management. Learn the Citys federal grants revenue realization process with the goal of suggesting and implementing improvements. Learn the basics of the FEMA grants process with particular emphasis on the National Flood Insurance Program. Become familiar with the NYC Financial Management System and how OMB uses QuickBase to monitor funding with the Grant Management System. Support data analysis and data engineering projects related to grants management. Assist in reviewing large datasets and identifying buildings potentially at risk from climate-related disasters. Monitor City agency grant receivables/cash collection produce reports for management and support documentation systems for grant compliance. Identify and produce where applicable solutions that improve speed and accuracy of tasks (scripting reports etc).
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Interest in learning about New York City governance disaster recovery and budgeting.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word Excel PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new technology quickly. Ability to work independently as a member of a team with moderate supervision.
-Prior experience with federal grants administering large database management systems building automation and ETL for data analysis and engineering using GIS software and/or programming languages (Python and SQL) are all a plus.
REQUIREMENTS:

Undergraduate interns must be currently enrolled or accepted into an accredited college or university. Strong analytical research and communications skills are required. Candidates must have familiarity in MS Word and Excel
To participate in the OMB Summer Internship Program undergraduate students must be enrolled or accepted into a college or university.
Compensation/Duration:
Summer Undergraduate Intern$17.50 per hour
Internships will run for 10 weeks from June 1 2026 to August 7 2026. The work must be done during the regular workday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. no evenings or weekends.

Qualifications :
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
