Vice President Information Technology and Chief Information Officer

Salary:

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Basic Function:

To serve as executive officer of the university and provide overall leadership for the Division of Information Technology as the primary advocate and spokesperson for university technology initiatives. Serve as a member of the Presidents cabinet and work closely with the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration/CFO and the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include but not be limited to the following:

Develop and lead the universitys information technology governance including a CIO council and directly manage the Division of Information Technology.

Evaluate core systems and topics to ascertain their adequacy and test for change requirements. These systems and topics include though are not limited to: cloud computing for enterprise and other systems email and collaboration systems administrative applications web presence and portals data center and network ERP management system IT security and disaster recovery.

Provide leadership for these major areas: Education Technology and Service Management Systems Development and Innovations and IT Enterprise Applications/Infrastructure Services and Support.

Develop long-term strategy and investment plan for information technology.

Participate in the strategic planning and execution of the plan for the university.

Serve as a member of the Presidents cabinet.

Lead initiatives associated with a university vice president including: technology councils university studies search committees and special projects.

Monitor federal and state legislation as it affects the university and in particular in the area of media technology licensing and contracts.

Lead regional and local initiatives and technology partnerships for the benefit of the university.

Partner in the determination implementation and enhancements to a university Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).

Provide overall leadership for the acquisition and implementation of technology solutions.

Oversee the installation enhancements and security of the universitys networks.

Support client needs for academic computing services.

Oversee the advancement of academic initiatives and client services such as distance learning multi-media operations and administrative enhancements.

Provide leadership and advocacy for the development of long- and short-range technology goals for all eight campuses of the university; develop long- and short-range goals for the division.

Present budget and finance analyses to assist the executive officers in the allocation of financial resources to university priorities.

Lead the initiative for shared services both internal to the university and externally as opportunities arise.

Provide general support for the Board of Trustees in the area of information technology.
Provide leadership in the advancement of technology as client solutions; leadership and oversight of a major division. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in a relevant field plus eight years progressively responsible experience in information systems and service administration with demonstrated successes leading information technology in large complex organizations.

License/Certification:

Knowledge Of:

Broad and current technical expertise including emerging information technology trends such as artificial intelligence cloud computing cybersecurity immersive technologies and data analytics

Applicable local state and federal laws and regulations governing technology security and compliance

Management principles encompassing strategic planning human resources cost forecasting and financial analysis

Enterprise information technology domains including administrative computing networking telecommunications new media and web technologies and information security

Skill In:

Written verbal and interpersonal communication

Ability To:

Lead strategic information technology vision and transformation across the university while serving as a strong operational manager for centrally provided technology services

Create an IT culture to recruit retain and develop IT talent

Interact with a multitude of stakeholders across the organization including faculty staff students and external business partners

Provide leadership and direction in a collaborative work environment

Lead change through a collaborative and solution-oriented approach

Be a strategic partner committed to the universitys mission of teaching/learning research community and global service and engagement

Preferred Qualifications if applicable:

Masters degree preferred.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building and/or off-campus frequently.
