A vacancy has arisen for a Flight Lieutenant (Any Profession) to serve as Executive Officer at 504 Sqn RAuxAF RAF Wittering on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 27 July 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status).
504 (County of Nottingham) Sqns mission is to attract train employ and retain reservist logisticians and engineers committed to delivering support to Air and Defence operations exercises and diverse tasks across the UK and overseas; and to raise the profile of 504 Sqn celebrating its proud history and promote the work of the RAF Reserves.
The Sqn Executive Officer (XO) is responsible to OC 504 Sqn for the effective overall management of 504 Sqns operational training support and engagement functions and delivery of required outputs. XO 504 Sqn is also responsible for the administration welfare and discipline of all FTRS and PTVR personnel under the command of OC 504 Sqn.
Specifically XO 504 Sqn will be required to:
- Act as the Deputy Sqn Cdr and Junior Subordinate Commander for all 504 Sqn personnel.
- Act as Flt Cdr and Reporting Officer for 504 Sqn Ops/Delivery and Spt staff.
- Manage and supervise all functional areas ranging from training HR and operations.
- Provide mentoring and support to PTVR Flt Cdrs and Trg Off as appropriate.
- Actively contribute to internal and external CI/change programmes to optimise efficiency and effectiveness of all representative capabilities and outputs of 504 Sqn.
- Oversee the effective delivery of sqn mobilisation and tasking processes.
- Oversee career management of all PTVR personnel ensuring talent management strategies are applied as appropriate.
- Assure the provision of trained Logistics Drivers Chefs Suppliers and Ground Engineering Technicians (Electrical and Mechanical) personnel to support sqn outputs.
- Ensure co-ordination of Sqn/Flt Duty/Training Programmes taking account of operational commitments recruitment force development adventurous and physical training engagement and ceremonial activities.
- Management administration and development of the Sqns Marketing and Engagement Plan.
- Administration of Sqn XXs meetings.
- Manage the Sqn Workforce Establishment.
- Act as the Unit Employer Support Officer (UESO). This involves being the focal point for employer support and employer engagement activity.
- Regularly engage proactively with key stakeholders such as; Spt Fce HQ and FEs other Reserves Logs Spt Sqns Stn Execs Eng and Logs Reserves HQ Employer Engagement Teams AREEO RFCA HQ R&S Adjudication Team and Reserves Directorate staffs.
- Maintain oversight of Annual Bounty qualifications for the COs Certificate of Efficiency.
- Undertake the role of Deputy Budget Manager for the Sqn.
- Ensure optimum sqn preparedness for the Annual Capability Audit.
- Co-ordinate and maintain the Sqn Business Continuity Plan.
- Review and update PARMIS sqn risks as required.
- Complete and submit the monthly F540 submissions and capture monthly workforce data.
- Undertake the role and duties of the Flight Safety Officer.
- Manage the Sqn Quality Improvement Action Plan (QIAP).
- Act as the 504 Sqn Security Officer (SyO).
- Staffing citations for EoY/Inspectorate/HAC submissions Honours & Awards RFCA Updates etc and manage other routine and ad-hoc administration and submissions as required.
The post holder will be required to work some weekends (usually one per month) and participate in other sqn training events and exercises as necessary including support to Annual Continuous Training events and supporting ceremonial FD/AT and engagement events which may occasionally take place over weekends and evenings.
Whilst there may be some capacity for hybrid working as this role has significant command responsibilities the XO will be expected to spend the majority of their time working from the Sqn HQ at RAF Wittering.
