Job Summary

The City of Topeka is seeking a general facility and equipment maintenance mechanic to perform semi-skilled building equipment and grounds construction repair and maintenance tasks on a variety of city-owned assets and facilities.

This position works Monday through Friday 7:00 AM 3:30 PM.

What youll do:

  • Inspect buildings machinery and equipment to identify the need for repair and maintenance activities.
  • Carpentry work to repair buildings facilities and equipment.
  • Plumbing repair and maintenance duties such as replacement of exposed pipe sinks and tanks and unclogging grains.
  • Repair and maintenance to electrical equipment.

The ideal candidate possesses any combination of the following traits:

  • A basic knowledge of mechanics and/or plumbing hand tools.
  • Is a highly motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced changing work environment.
  • Has knowledge of standard safety practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with one year of experience performing semi-skilled building mechanical construction or grounds maintenance work is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license and city-insurable driving record. Please review the Insurability Guidelines
  • Supervisory experience is desirable.

Entry rate of pay: $16.62 $17.40 per hour depending on qualifications
