Position Summary
This is routine manual labor work usually of a repetitive nature. An employee in this class is responsible for performing duties primarily requiring physical exertion. Work involves the use of manual tools on routine tasks and occasionally the use of smaller power operated tools for a limited time. The duties of employees in this class range over a wide variety of activities including light and heavy physical labor indoor and outdoor work and work in groups or alone depending on the location and nature of the assignment. The employees receive written assignments from a supervisor and work is inspected for desired results. This position is considered Seasonal.
Essential Functions
- Clean restrooms and portable lavatories stocking toilet tissue when needed.
- Sweep walks cut grass with a push-type mower removes refuse and paper from park grounds trims hedges and rakes leave.
- Gathers litter with hand sweepers and shovel or by hand to deposit in refuse containers.
- Cleans playgrounds recreation areas and around adjacent buildings rolls tennis courts marks play areas fills holes in playgrounds levels hummocks fills in low areas and keeps play areas free of debris and dangerous obstructions.
- Empty trash barrels and pick up trash throughout the park.
- Repair home plate areas and put down batters boxes on designated fields and directed by management staff.
- Pick up bases and lock all gates on all fields.
- Lock restrooms at various parks as directed.
- Performs other related duties as requested by management staff.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of hand tools and the standard practices of labor operations.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions in English.
- Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods often under adverse climatic conditions.
- Ability to operate a pick-up truck in a safe manner.
- Ability to deal with the public professionally and present a positive image.
