The role of the Coordinator of School Health Services is to provide leadership managment and consultation in the school districts comprehensive health program by coordinating and supporting the activities of school nurses and students parents school staff administrators and community resources.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide leadership and support to school nurses.
- Coordinate nursing staffing and coverage for all schools and provide substitute coverage as needed.
- Consultation on students with complex medical needs.
- Participte in the hiring and orientation process of school nurses and substitute school nurses.
- Serve as primary evaluator and coordinator for evaluation of school nurses.
- Collaborate with MDPH to establish and maintain standards for school health services.
- Contribute to the development of professional standards updated school health policies and procedures and assume responsibility for ensuring professional development.
- Consult with the school physician and town department of public health to advise school administration in matters pertaining to public health.
- Provide professional leadership in the community on school health issues.
- Manage the Comprehensive School Health Services grant including budget responsibilities overseeing mandated screening programs and submission of required statistical data reports.
- Prepare and submit reports to the Superintendent as requested.
- Conduct regular staff meetings for nurses.
- Attend meetings within PSB which require school health representation and represent the district at meetings outside the system as required.
- Plan and coordinate in-service and orientation programs for nursing staff.
- Participate in PSB budget process and submit recommendations for annual school health services budget.
- Collaborate with ESY stakeholders to ensure appropriate nursing staffing.
- Oversee maintenance and purchase of school health equipment materials and supplies.
- Other responsibilites as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services.
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Graduate of Professional Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
- Current License as a Registered Nurse in MA
- Current Certification from Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Knowledge of Comprehensive school health and public health issues
- Evidence of leadership ability
