CO-OP, Safety & Systems Assurance

12-month contract starting in May 2026

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Safety and System Assurance Office is looking for 2 CO-OP Students to join our team to support identifying themes trends indicators and gaps in the areas of system safety assurance and safety risk management. They will also support the implementation of related processes across various projects and operations. This position will report into the Manager Safety Risk.

What will I be doing

• Support developing tools technology and using data and judgement to improve quality and efficiency of safety regulatory and system assessment work processes.
• Support the development of the new safety risk models and the enhancement of existing models across various asset types.
• Support with conducting risk assessments and analytics for various projects and changes within operations.
• Assists with monthly Safety Performance Reports Risk Assessment reports Safety Scorecards and safety mitigation management system.
• Assist with actions necessary to ensure improvement in safety and system assurance processes.
• Assist with identifying and clearly defining assessment issues and root causes
• Support with conducting safety and system assurance assessments to determine compliance with Metrolinx safety standards policies and procedures.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need

• Must be attending school full-time and returning to an academic institution
• Must be at least 15 years of age before starting employment
• Enrolled in System Safety Engineering Computer Science Mathematics or a related discipline
• Preference will be given to students who can commence work in May 2026
• Competence in software such as Microsoft Office Microsoft Excel Powerpoint and Access
• Project management knowledge or skills are an asset
• Knowledge and experience in SharePoint Power Apps and Power BI considered an asset.
