ThePortage County Planning & Zoning deparmentis hiring aseasonal Windbreak Technician Leadfor the planting season. This position will work 40 hours per week for 18 weeks to primarily establish windbreaks for vegetable growers in Central Wisconsin.
Pay starts at $25.04 / hr
The primary job responsibilities include:
- Assist with planting maintenance and inventory of windbreaks.
- Provide care for tree and shrub seedlings prior to and during planting.
- Operate tree planting and maintenance equipment.
- Assist with maintenance of equipment.
- Report tree planting and maintenance progress/problems daily to the Project Coordinator.
- Participate in a conservation team contributing to a positive supportive work environment.
- Assist train and be a resource to the Windbreak Technicians.
- Provide other assistance as directed.
Minimum qualifications include:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Employee must hold a valid Wisconsin drivers license and have a good driving record.
- Must be a least 18 years old.
- Experience as a Windbreak Technician is highly desired.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of wind erosion control principles irrigated vegetable agriculture or other agriculture is desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret field windbreak planting plans and aerial photographs.
- Ability to operate and maintain farm and tree planting equipment.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and keep accurate organized records.
- Experience with planting and care of tree and shrub seedlings is desirable.
