Job Summary

Job Title: Advanced Learning Program Coordinator

Department: Teaching and Learning

Reports to: Director of Advanced Learning

Job Summary:

The Advanced Learning Program Manager will support plan coordinate evolve monitor and evaluate activities conducted to meet the educational needs of students identified as talented and gifted for advanced learning services enrolled in Des Moines Public Schools. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the Advanced Learning department.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Support and advance the districts vision goals and strategic direction for Advanced Learning programming including guiding staff through change and continuous improvement efforts.
  2. Research and apply best practices in gifted education; support ongoing data analysis program evaluation and continuous improvement of services and systems.
  3. Assist and support Advanced Learning consultants through coordination of services professional learning collaboration and implementation of program initiatives in an urban PK12 setting.
  4. Support equitable identification of students for gifted programming using multiple criteria; assist with PK12 identification protocols testing programs training inventory and test security.
  5. Support teachers principals and schools in implementing high-quality qualitatively differentiated instruction and Advanced Learning services for identified students.
  6. Collaborate with district departments program supervisors schools families community partners and external agencies to ensure equity of access and alignment of services.
  7. Clearly communicate program information services and regulations; serve as a district liaison and represent the district at state regional and professional meetings and conferences.
  8. Support compliance with federal state and district requirements; assist with budget planning and fiscal oversight; coordinate district-wide professional development enrichment activities and family engagement opportunities.
  9. Maintain professional learning and growth through professional organizations seminars course work and collaboration.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Masters degree in education
  • Work Experience: Four years previous teaching experience in a gifted and talented program
  • Licensure or Certification: Iowa teaching license with a gifted and talented endorsement

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge around gifted and talented research.
  2. Experience designing and delivering adult professional learning.
  3. Ability to andexperience withanalyzing district building and program data toidentifyneeds guide decision making and strengthen instructional practices.
  4. Experience using data for instructional decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  5. Effective written and oral communication and presentation techniques.
  6. Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with staff families leaders and partners.
  7. Ability to navigate district technology systems and data with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  8. Maintain confidentiality.

Physical Requirements:

  • Moves throughout the building to access meetings and information.
