Job Summary

SUMMARY:

The Area Manager oversees operations within assigned manufacturing areas ensuring adherence to established procedures and approved processes. This role is accountable for the safe and efficient production of company products across diverse manufacturing processes. The Area Manager ensures all quality productivity and cost objectives are met while maintaining compliance with safety and operational standards. The position may oversee multiple shifts or departments delegating responsibilities to Production Supervisors and/or department leads as appropriate. Compared to an Production Supervisor the Area Manager role encompasses a broader span of control and requires a higher level of expertise in manufacturing operations process management and leadership.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the safe manufacture of products; safety in the areas of responsibility; and maintaining a safe injury-free work environment. Ensures compliance with legal requirements and company safety policies.
  • Ensures that all employees work in a safe manner and that each employee is properly trained in all safety procedures. Ensures that good housekeeping and 6S practices are consistently followed.
  • Ensures effective employee relations. Works with Supervisors on employee coaching and development. Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Responsible for adherence to process control procedures operating instructions and all quality control instructions.
  • Plans organizes and supervises operations in accordance with production schedules and requirements in the most cost-effective manner. Maintains awareness of policies and procedures and assures compliance by assigned employees.
  • Manages performance measures in area of responsibility.
  • Ensures that thru-put and target earned hours are attained and budget criteria is met or exceeded.
  • Conducts formal performance appraisals and recommends/approves pay increases transfers promotions discipline and terminations in accordance with Company policies and procedures and state and federal laws.
  • Responsible for effective interviews and hires of new employees through the Supervisors. Is aware of and manages hiring process with consideration for affirmative action goals and EEO requirements.
  • Is responsible for training and developing subordinate supervisory staff to safely and effectively manage assigned production operations.
  • Develops trains and involves Supervisors and employees in maintaining and improving departmental safety efficiency productivity quality cooperation and morale.
  • Maintains adequate staffing to meet required production schedules.
  • Leads the annual budgeting process for areas of responsibility.
  • As appropriate submits Capital Equipment requests with cost qualifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must comply with all applicable safety requirements policies and procedures while maintaining a clean safe and orderly work environment for self and your area of plant responsibility.
  • Must participate in required training medical monitoring safety and health evaluations and programs.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in all designated areas of facility.
  • May be required to complete annual hazardous waste training handle hazardous waste complete weekly inspections or manage areas that generate or handle hazardous waste.
  • Perform all physical functions of position which may include standing stooping bending sitting walking twisting kneeling turning and/or lifting of materials up to 35 lbs.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree in business-related curriculum or engineering curriculum or 5-7 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience and responsibility.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities; easily adapt to changing situations and priorities; and work with personnel at all organizational levels.
  • Must have demonstrated abilities to lead people and get results through others with excellent oral and written communication skills. Presents information in a clear concise manner.
  • Requires that the incumbent be highly organized self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as work effectively in a collaborative team environment and establish effective relationships with all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop execute and deliver results in conformance with action plans.
