A Brief Overview
The Patient Expeditor coordinates the daily operations of the Synapse Command Center overseeing the flow of scheduled direct and emergency patient admissions. This role proactively manages the patient flow plan anticipates surge or capacity constraints and collaborates across disciplines to support timely patient progression throughout the Childrens Nebraska system.

Essential Functions

  • Leads and coordinates the clinical operational activities of the organization to ensure proper flow of patients adhering to patient placement guidelines and identifying discharge priorities. Coordinates the routine flow of scheduled direct and emergency patient admissions to efficiently place patients in the appropriate care location maximize capacity and improve satisfaction of patients families and referring providers. Coordinates the organizational response during times of high census by collaborating with administration unit leadership and ancillary service departments. Continuously monitors daily operations by integrating data from electronic systems personal communication and collaboration with health care teams to ensure patient care effectiveness efficiency and satisfaction. Coordinates patient activity triggers and feedback mechanisms to inform operational team members physician leaders and administrative teams to mitigate over-capacity situations. Monitors patient length of stay identifies opportunities partners with ancillary teams and develops focused interventions for operational improvements. Prioritizes the work of ancillary services to enable patients to meet estimated discharge dates and medical readiness status.
  • Leads with effective communication and collaboration between stakeholders to achieve the common goal of safe high-quality patient care. Communicates effectively at all levels role modeling a professional approach in all situations and with all individuals even when faced with disagreement or conflict. Promotes a positive work environment by building trust strengthening relationships with staff within and between units and fostering cohesive teams. Uses a problem-solving approach to develop creative solutions for routine and complex situations requiring intervention to ensure appropriate resource allocation including patient progression escalations. Leads the ongoing development and implementation of systems and processes that elevate patient safety and quality of care while standardizing care processes.
  • Leads and directs improved bed planning and decision-making while minimizing bed downtime during periods of high capacity in collaboration with physician leadership. Applies knowledge of regulatory standards professional practice standards and organizational policies and procedures to patient placement. Directs patient placement planning. Utilizes knowledge of inpatient units patient medical conditions epidemiological considerations and other circumstances that may affect appropriate patient placement.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or health care administration Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years nursing experience preferably in pediatrics Required
