Job Description: The General Surgeon will:
- Provide comprehensive surgical care across inpatient outpatient and emergency department settings
- Perform common general surgical procedures including:
- Hernia repair
- Cholecystectomy
- Endoscopy
- Appendectomy
- Management of small bowel obstruction
- Colorectal surgery
- Skin and soft tissue surgical procedures
- Deliver evaluation and management of acute and chronic wounds within the multidisciplinary Wound Clinic model
- Provide expert diagnosis treatment and management of a wide range of surgical conditions
- Exercise advanced operative skills and strong clinical judgment
- Collaborate closely with:
- Anesthesiologists
- CRNAs
- Physician Assistants
- Perioperative and peri-anesthesia teams
- Emergency Department clinicians
- Hospitalists
- Wound Clinic team
- Educate patients and families regarding:
- Surgical procedures
- Risks and benefits
- Post-operative care plans
- Review diagnostic test results and address abnormalities
- Offer surgical input for:
- Palliative care
- Pain management
- End-of-life decision support
- Participate in departmental meetings
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training activities
- Maintain compliance with OSHA Category I standards (bloodborne pathogen precautions)
