Primary Purpose:
Assists in administering the payroll affairs of the District to provide the most efficiency of payroll functions.
Education / Certification:
- High school diploma or GED Certificate.
- Thirty (30) semester hours of college credit with some business orientation or equivalent business school training is preferred.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Good communication skills.
- Knowledgeable about computers.
- Basic knowledge of accounting. Working knowledge of income tax laws insurance payroll and payroll-related federal and Texas Education.
- Knowledge of Texas Education Agency rules and regulations.
- Ability to get along with people and communicate with stressed employees.
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of payroll information.
Experience / Other Requirements:
One year of successful experience in a payroll position preffered.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Payroll
- Keeps complete and systematic set of computerized payroll records.
- Prepares and maintains master payroll records.
- Posts identifying information along with salary payroll deductions and other information to records. Enters changes as they occur.
- Submits payroll computer input for processing.
- Prepares quarterly and annual withholding tax reports and statements.
- Prepares quarterly unemployment and workers compensation reports.
- Prepares checks for payroll deductions: withholding tax teacher retirement life insurance health insurance annuities professional dues and other deductions.
- Inputs changes to W-4s direct deposits deductions.
- Files all payroll records in docuware.
- Prepares monthly payroll summary.
- Maintains leave balances.
- Inputs Transportation Maintenance Child Nutrition Child Care and Tutoring payrolls.
- Processes districts substitute payroll with assist of Substitute Specialist.
- Assists with substitute payroll.
- Inputs extra-pay (including field trips) payroll docks and stipends.
- Prepares balances and issues W-2s.
- Balances payroll sorts and stuffs payroll checks.
- Prepares balances and issues W-2s.
- Prepares necessary information for payroll transfers.
- Implementation training and coordination of electric timekeeping system
Teacher Retirement System:
- Prepares monthly reports.
- Assists employees with questions and forms.
- Prepares payment of funds withheld to Teachers Retirement System.
Professional Growth and Development
- Develops needed professional skills appropriate to job assignments.
- Demonstrates behavior that is professional ethical responsible and serve as a role model for all District staff.
- Responsible for properly maintaining district records adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
