Engineering Manager, Enviro Test Lab, Space Simulation Lab

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Environmental Test Lab engineering team at Amazon this role you will own the people processes and equipment that keep our aerospace environmental test production running at peak performance. You will lead a team of engineers setting the technical direction and operational strategy for environmental testing of satellite hardware. You will be responsible for building and developing a high-performing engineering team while also rolling up your sleeves to solve complex technical challenges alongside them.

Key job responsibilities
People Management & Team Leadership

* Directly manage a team of Engineers supporting aerospace environmental test production
* Hire develop and retain top engineering talent; conduct performance reviews and support career growth
* Set clear goals and priorities for the team; foster a culture of ownership safety and continuous improvement
* Serve as an escalation point for technical issues and unblock the engineering team during daily test operations

Technical Leadership & Operations

* Own the strategy and execution for aerospace environmental test production (thermal TVAC HASS) in compliance with applicable standards including MIL-STD-810 SMC-S-016 and MIL-STD-1540
* Serve as the primary technical authority for automated test equipment (test chambers and test sets): maintenance calibration troubleshooting bring-up and commissioning of new equipment
* Troubleshoot and identify root causes of issues in test processes; implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
* Partner with IT Infrastructure professionals to resolve networking and communication issues with test equipment
* Establish and continuously improve environmental test processes to maximize output and enable rapid transition from engineering development to rate production

Process Development & Operational Excellence

* Identify improvement opportunities and execute initiatives to ensure product quality reduce lead time and increase productivity
* Enable production test autonomy by challenging requirements simplifying work procedures and automating actions
* Participate in lean manufacturing improvement efforts and drive operational excellence initiatives
* Establish and maintain calibration procedures and visual management of production tooling and equipment

Cross-Functional Partnership

* Partner with cross-functional teams including electrical engineering RF engineering mechanical engineering thermal engineering software reliability maintenance quality and program management
* Represent the Environmental Test Lab in program reviews roadmap planning and resource discussions with senior leadership

A day in the life
As the Engineering Manager of the Environmental Test Lab you will balance people leadership with hands-on technical engagement. Your days will include coaching and developing your engineering team reviewing test rack readiness and calibration status and engaging directly with cross-functional partners to align on priorities. You will be the go-to engineering leader when production issues arise driving rapid root cause analysis and corrective action. You will also spend time building the teams long-term capabilities: hiring great engineers developing processes that scale and investing in automation that reduces manual burden on your team.

- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 2 years of project management (including scope schedule budget quality risk and critical path management) experience
- Experience using common electronics test equipment (oscilloscopes power supplies function generators etc)
- Experience in root cause analysis and troubleshooting or problem solving
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Aerospace Engineering Computer Science Computer Engineering or related field
- 3 years in a hands-on hardware testing environment (Space / Aerospace / Military / Automotive / Consumer Electronics)
- 2 years hands-on experience developing and executing test plans for complex aerospace automotive or consumer electronics systems
- 1 years working with Data Acquisition systems and data analysis of environmental testing results

- 6 years in a Space / Aerospace / Military / Automotive hardware testing environment (thermal TVAC HASS acoustic) in compliance with MIL-STD-810 SMC-S-016 or MIL-STD-1540
- 1 years of scripting or programming experience in at least one modern language (C C# Java Python LabVIEW) for troubleshooting automated test scripts
- Experience commissioning and troubleshooting automated test equipment
- Experience in IT Infrastructure and System Administration as related to setting up automated environmental testing equipment
- Experience developing production processes and associated test support equipment
- Experience developing hardware testing procedures
- Demonstrated ability to scale production rate capability
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively communicate across multiple teams and with senior leadership
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment multitask and remain comfortable with changing priorities

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
