POSITION: Elementary Behavior Program Teacher Grade Band K-2

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt - 185 or 187 Day Contract

SALARY: Approved Certified Compensation Plan (Education and Experience)

REPORTS TO: School Principal

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Maricopa Unified School District 20 is looking for a founding Elementary Behavior Program (Reset and Reintegration) Teacher to provide grade-level academic instruction and intensive behavioral support to students who require a temporary substantially separate setting. This teacher will serve as the lead teacher of a new in-district Elementary Behavior Program that will serve as a short- to medium-term intervention designed to build students behavioral skills maintain academic progress and support successful reintegration into the classroom setting or less restrictive environment. Students in the program may include those with and without disabilities.The Elementary Behavior Program will operate using a proactive skill-building approach to behavior that emphasizes prevention helping students build replacement and/or lagging skills and gradual reintegration into a less restrictive classroom setting rather than punishment or exclusion.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Establish consistent instructional routines and expectations that support student learning regulation and engagement.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials aligned to district curriculum grade-level standards and individual student needs.
  • Deliver academic instruction across multiple subjects aligned to district curriculum and grade-level standards.
  • Differentiate instruction as needed to meet diverse academic and behavioral needs of students through whole-group small-group and individualized instruction.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to maximize engagement and effective use of instructional time.
  • Design and maintain a supportive classroom environment that creates regulation predictability and engagement.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior necessary to support a safe and functional learning environment.
  • Explicitly teach lagging skills such as emotional regulation communication and problem-solving.
  • Implement proactive behavior supports and de-escalation strategies.
  • Respond effectively to high-intensity student behavior as needed including maintaining safety during crises in accordance with district protocols and trauma-informed practices.
  • Supervise students during instructional transitions and assigned activities throughout the school day to ensure safety and consistency.
  • Collect analyze and report progress monitoring data (academic behavioral and social-emotional) to inform instruction behavior plans and placement decisions.
  • Evaluate and document students academic behavioral and social-emotional growth and contribute to required progress reports and records.
  • Use data to identify patterns triggers and skill deficits driving student behavior.
  • Contribute to behavior plans progress documentation and reintegration planning.
  • Liaise with student home schools to prepare students for successful return to general education or other less restrictive settings.
  • Lead or co-lead reintegration planning including gradual transitions and coordination with receiving teachers.
  • Participate in placement review meetings and recommend readiness for less restrictive settings.
  • Communicate regularly with students families and home schools regarding student progress and instructional or behavioral supports.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership within the classroom team including paraprofessionals and behavior support staff.
  • Collaborate closely with behavior specialists counselors social workers psychologists and other professional staff to address student needs.
  • Utilize and maintain instructional materials resources and classroom tools necessary to support academic and behavioral instruction.
  • Participate in curriculum development activities and professional learning related to behavior intervention and academic instruction.
  • Maintain professionalism confidentiality and sound judgment in a high-need setting.
  • Participate in the districts teacher evaluation process and comply with professional expectations outlined by the assigned administrator.
  • Maintain compliance with district state and federal requirements.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of best practice teaching strategies
  • Knowledge of best practices in classroom management
  • Demonstrated experience working with elementary-aged students exhibiting intensive behavioral needs or strong evidence of readiness for this work
  • Knowledge of data assessment and disaggregation
  • Knowledge of general safety rules and techniques.
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of district rules of conduct and ethics
  • Knowledge of relevant Governing Board Policies
  • Skill in monitoring and correcting student behavior.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
  • Professional communication skills effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; and maintain emotional control under stress.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A valid Arizona Department of Education Certification/Endorsement
  • Experience in self-contained therapeutic or behavior-focused settings
  • Training in trauma-informed practices behavior intervention and/or social-emotional learning
