Job Summary

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Maintains and repairs property of the school district. Responds to emergency calls as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Installs and maintains recreation playground sports and other equipment such as bleachers and auditorium seating fences and other items related to district facilities. Cleans and prepares athletic fields and equipment for events. Applies stripes to fields and athletic event area.

Operates cutting torches and welders to fabricate install or repair steel handrails gates and other meal items.

Sets up and repairs portable classrooms. Installs and repairs lockers signage and other building fixtures. Sets forms for concrete pours and helps finish concrete surfaces.

Erects inspects and uses scaffolding ladders hydraulic lifts and booms.

Maintains small equipment such as tractors skid loaders backhoes mowers snowblowers small engines sand and salt spreaders and other equipment used to maintain grounds and property.

May be responsible for: Cuts grass and trims weeds on school property and athletic fields. Plants grass flowers trees and shrubs. Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves branches or twigs. Sprays lawns shrubs and trees with fertilizer herbicides and insecticides. Repairs sprinkler systems. New landscaping projects.

Operates skid loader backhoe dump trucks and tractors. Drives trucks and loads and hauls landscape materials and trash.

Performs general repairs of parking lots and sidewalks roofing and buildings. Fills and grades existing and new yards embankments and athletic fields. Removes old concrete and asphalt.

Operates snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots sidewalks driveways and playgrounds.

Moves furniture and equipment within and between buildings.

Reads understands and complies with appropriate MSDS confined space and lockout/tagout information.

Provides general custodial support when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess the following licenses: Class A CDL pesticide application license forklift license and backflow license may be required. The appropriate asbestos license may be required and assigned by the Director or designee.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints rough sketches safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

ANALYTICAL and REASONING SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

Must be able to use the computer process work orders and time tracking and enter accounting information. Able to retrieve and print information from various computer programs when needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop kneel crouch sit crawl talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Will perform other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee necessary and appropriate to the achievement of the program and/or District goals and objectives.
