Our vehicle communication team is hiring a software engineer to design and developBluetoothsoftware in our Linux-based networking system.Join us to develop the best connectivity experience found in any car.

GM is developing abreakthrough new systemfor vehicle software and communications andyoullbe at the heart of it. We design our own hardware soyoullwork closely with hardware teams to meet the tough power signaland reliability requirements of vehicles. Youllalso work closely with our application and cloud teams to ensure end-to-end reliability and performance.

Requirements:

• You should knowLinux/POSIX systemsand system software fundamentalsacross thewhole stack - from drivers through applications.

• Youveshipped softwareat the junction of theBluetoothstack and theoperating system/user features such as configuration managementdevice management audio or custom Bluetooth application protocols

• You are familiar withuserspaceservices that configureandoperateBluetooth such asBlueZBlueDroid Fluoride or vendor-provided stacks

• You know how to triage and debug end-to-end issues in ateam andcan performand analyzepacketandHCIcaptures.You enjoy debugging difficult latency and connection issues.

• You understand the upper-level protocols and mechanics of Bluetooth & BLE: device discovery and connections GATT audio etc.

• Most of our code is written in C C and Java so we expect youknowat least one of these languages well.

• BS/MS/PhD in computer science or electrical engineering (or equivalent experience)

• 5 years software development experience

• Most importantly you have a deep drive to make Bluetooth work perfectly no matter how old or allegedly flaky a customers phone is.You want to make customershappy andwontlet otherpeoplesbugs stand in your way.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience collaborating with radio and operating system vendors to debug issues

• Experience with AndroidBluetooth

• Work withBluetoothinteroperablilityacrossgenerations of standards and operating systems

• Ability to build a power-aware system by balancing reliability and power consumption via scanning/roaming policies and suspend/resume behavior.This should be supported by experience with measuring power consumption

• Work with lab/field testers test automation and certification/interoperability efforts

• Work with related systems that can affectBluetoothperformance such asWiFicoexistence at the operating system level

• Knowledge of how Bluetooth works on phone OSes (Android and iOS) and the broader Bluetooth accessory ecosystem (we wanteveryphone to work great with our cars!)

• Familiar with neighbor systems that affect Bluetooth user experience such as audio routing and the audio stack

• The ability to collaborate with hardware engineers to debug antennapowerand operating systemissues

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

The salary range for this role is 190000 to 290000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
