Job Summary

Position Summary

Assists the Director of Library Services in delivering comprehensive library services to students faculty staff and other approved patrons. Provides Coordination of activities at the Marietta Johnson Museum - Fairhope.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum the essential functions of this position shall include:

  1. Performs circulation duties including checking in and out of library materials knowing and enforcing library and college policies and maintaining circulation records.
  2. Supervises access to copy machines computers and printers to ensure each is used for academic purposes and that copyright laws are upheld.
  3. Performs reference duties and keeps current in the use of electronic library programs and services offered by the College. This includes assisting patrons with reference questions locating and selecting materials directional questions and point-of-use instruction.
  4. Teaches students and other library patrons how to use the library databases software and other functions necessary to utilize the library services fully.
  5. Assists with student registration activities and other College services as needed including making student and employee IDs both in the library or learning resource center and those submitted electronically.
  6. Schedules use of library and learning resources center spaces as requested.
  7. Monitors library supply inventories submits requests for materials and supplies and maintains purchase order files for the campus library or learning resource center.
  8. Takes door counts head counts maintains circulation and reference question statistics and submits reports regarding the same.
  9. Processes Interlibrary Loan requests notifying patrons of receipt of materials returning all borrowed materials and maintaining Interlibrary Loan files.
  10. Visits classes upon request to promote library and learning resources center services and holdings.
  11. Provides oversight and coordination of campus library services and facilities including the Marietta Johnson Museum.
  12. Conducts tours of the Marietta Johnson Museum and promotes its use and reputation in the local and statewide community.
  13. Oversees programs and workshops for museum visitors.
  14. Represents the Marietta Johnson Museum at the regional meeting.
  15. Represents the Libraries and the College positively both on campus and in the community.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  1. Associatesdegree from a regionally accredited institutionOR equivalent recent relevant full-time work experience (two years of full-time recent relevantwork experience for every one year of college).
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  3. Excellent computer application skills in MS Office.
  4. Excellent organizational and/or records management skills.
  5. Experience interacting with the public.
  6. Strong commitment to providing quality customer service.
  7. Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evening hours.
  8. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  9. Ability to hold and maintain a drivers license.
  10. Ability to complete multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines.
  11. Ability to interact with students faculty staff and the general public in a friendly and congenial manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. A bachelors degree or higher education beyond the associates degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Minimum of two years of related and/or library experience and/or museum experience.
  3. Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college library and learning resources center.
  4. Respect for individuals of different genders religions ethnic backgrounds abilities and opinions.
  5. Strong knowledge of Fairhope history.
