Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking Psychiatrists Per Diem for multiple vacancies Statewide based from Trenton NJ. The Psychiatrist will provide direct clinical care to state prisoners; functions collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams; and maintain effective communication with staff and administration. Duties include: Provides assessments direct clinical care and treatment planning to inmates. Conducts comprehensive psychiatrist assessments (demonstrating a review of the electronic record psychotropic medications history of mental illness prior psychiatric hospitalization suicidal unusual or bizarre behavior) for new admissions to UCHCs Special Needs roster according to established timeframes. Is knowledgeable about and follows DOC and UCHC policies and procedures including but not limited to emergency and non-emergency forced medication management of potentially suicidal inmates psychiatry services and therapeutic restraint. Orders initiates and interprets laboratory tests according to required time frames or as medically necessary including metabolic monitoring mood stabilizer blood levels thyroid function AIMS testing and other appropriate biochemical monitoring. Prescribes and renews medications that are deemed medically necessary within required time frames
