Position Overview:

Under direct supervision the Ultra Low Volume (ULV) Spray Truck Driver performs safe and effective applications of mosquito control products. Individuals in this role will be responsible for operating ULV spray trucks applying control measures for mosquitoes and larvae monitoring environmental and equipment conditions and accurately recording pesticide usage. The position follows a part-time seasonal schedule during peak mosquito activity and high disease transmission months (MayOctober).


The ULV Driver requires knowledge of pesticide handling and safety vehicle operation skills attention to detail and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Mosquito Control: Applies insecticides using truck-mounted Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray equipment through assigned areas at night. Responsibilities include entering data into ULV monitoring systems implementing control measures for adult mosquitoes and mosquito larvae and assisting with loading chemicals onto trucks as needed.
  • Equipment Monitoring: Monitors environmental and equipment conditions during insecticidal applications to ensure precise and effective delivery of materials.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Applies pesticides in accordance with federal state and local regulations and guidelines and accurately documents all usage.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License upon hire and maintain a clean driving record.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of experience operating vehicles including large or specialized equipment such as ULV spray trucks; ORAt least one (1) full season of ULV truck driving experience with an organized mosquito control agency.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Understands chemical labels and safe handling procedures for control-related chemicals including insecticides.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite for data entry reporting and communication.
  • Proficient in operating large or specialized vehicles such as ULV spray trucks.
  • Competent in using GPS and other navigation tools for route planning and area coverage.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members supervisors and the public.
  • Ability to work outdoors in diverse urban and natural environments under various weather conditions.

Preferences

Licensure:

  • May be required to obtain a Pesticide Noncommercial Applicator License from the Texas Department Agriculture within one year of employment

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • This position is designated as a seasonal part-time role and typically operates on a night schedule of three nights per week (24 hours per week) to perform the essential functions of the position. Shifts are generally from 8:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. with occasional variations from 6:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. and may change based on disease detection or seasonal needs. The role requires flexibility to work weekends and occasional holidays.

Work Environment:

  • The work is performed in field environments and involves exposure to chemicals including handling cleaning agents and other hazardous substances to perform the essential functions of the position. The position primarily involves operating a truck and application equipment within designated areas during nighttime hours while maintaining radio communication.

Physical Demands:

  • This position requires heavy physical work including frequent lifting bending and prolonged sitting with the ability to use and demonstrate physical strength and stamina. The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Field work may require walking on an incline through brush and fields.
  • The work requires high levels of concentration and attention to detail low levels of creativity and innovation moderate levels of work-related stress and moderate levels of memory and information retention to perform the essential functions of the position.
