Principal Electrical Engineer – Power Systems

KBR is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Electrical Engineer Power Systems to join our expanding national Power team. With major project wins across Melbournes transport utilities and energy sectors including landmark rail programs such as Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) Linewide and Stations along with ongoing delivery for major alliances this senior role offers the opportunity to influence some of Australias most significant infrastructure programs.

As a Principal Engineer you will serve as a technical authority across a broad range of power engineering disciplines including HV/LV systems substations networks distribution systems and system studies. You will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams shape technical strategy partner with senior clients and play a key role in strengthening our national delivery capability.

What youll be doing

Technical Leadership & Delivery

• Provide technical authority across HV/LV electrical systems substations and network infrastructure (1kV132kV).
• Lead and oversee system analysis and modelling including:
  • Load flow and power quality studies
  • Shortcircuit analysis
  • Network planning capacity assessment and system reliability modelling
  • Arcflash assessments and electrical safety compliance
• Lead development and approval of electrical documentation including SLDs schematics cable schedules design reports and technical specifications.
• Guide equipment selection and application for transformers switchgear protection devices auxiliary systems and network assets.
• Ensure seamless integration across disciplines Primary Secondary Earthing & Bonding SCADA Civil and Delivery teams to produce coordinated constructible designs.

Project Leadership & Client Engagement

• Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across major transport energy and infrastructure projects.
• Act as senior technical interface with clients utilities rail operators contractors and suppliers.
• Contribute to design reviews risk assessments safetyindesign workshops and engineering governance.
• Ensure project outcomes meet technical standards regulatory obligations and stakeholder requirements.

Business & Team Growth

• Mentor coach and uplift technical capability within the national Power team.
• Support major proposals bid strategies and client presentations.
• Identify new growth opportunities markets and partnerships for the Power business.
• Champion innovation digital engineering tools and continuous improvement across delivery.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor of Electrical Engineering accredited under the Washington Accord (or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia).
• Chartered Engineer (CPEng / RPEQ / RPEV) or ability to attain shortly.
• Extensive experience delivering complex power engineering solutions for transport utilities renewables or major infrastructure clients.
• Proven track record as a technical lead or technical authority on multidisciplinary design projects.
• Strong technical depth in HV/LV power system design network studies substations and electrical infrastructure.
• Experience with DNSPs/TNSPs and/or major rail operators highly desirable.
• Excellent clientfacing communication leadership presence and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex scopes competing priorities and highquality outcomes within fastpaced project environments.
• Commitment to mentoring professional development and knowledge sharing.
