ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: The Educational Consultant reports directly to the Director of Educational Planning or Director of Behavioral Health and in their absence to the Assistant Executive Director/Chief Academic Officer (CAO).
JOB DEFINITION: The Educational Consultants primary role is to improve learning opportunities for students by providing training and consultative services. The consultant offers school professionals and community members many forms of personal and professional development (i.e. coaching technical assistance training etc.) surrounding several educational subject areas including but not limited to the following: Career Readiness Technology/ Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Structured Literacy Standards of Mathematical Practice Education Administration Social-Emotional Learning etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical assistance training and consultation surrounding the integration of technology into the K-12 educational setting and other subject areas as assigned.
- Develop deliver and administer in-person and web-based synchronous and asynchronous training/workshops.
- Collaborate with internal and external customers to promote the effective use of educational technology and research-based strategies practices for all students.
- Develop and disseminate informational and instructional resources for educational subject areas including but not limited to the following: Career Readiness Technology/STEM Structured Literacy Standards of Mathematical Practice Education Administration Social Emotional Learning etc.
- Remain abreast of current research/best practices for assigned subject areas.
- Knowledge of the Pennsylvania Standards Aligned System Pennsylvania Core Standards Pennsylvania State System of Assessment ISTE Standards for teachers and students Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Framework and Pennsylvanias Educator Effectiveness System.
- Facilitate the distribution of information between PA Department of Education staff district personnel and other professionals in the region for assigned subject areas.
- Maintain knowledge skill and ability to analyze data made available through the varied data tools and resources to assist districts/schools in making informed decisions related to curriculum instruction and assessment.
- Explore advise and contribute to the application process for grant opportunities and other funding mechanisms to support CSIU professional development initiatives.
- Actively and consistently participate in national state and local level network groups of professionals for the assigned subject areas.
- Lead/facilitate networking groups for local job-alike professionals.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or designee.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- A minimum of a Masters degree in education reading instructional technology or a related specialty area is required.
- A valid Pennsylvania Instructional II teaching certificate is required preferably in the areas of Reading Special Education instructional technology and/or in Science Technology Engineering orMathematics (STEM) content areas Speech and Language and/or other areas relevant to this position.
- A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience or working in the K-12 educational environment or other experience supporting educational programs required. Seven or more years of teaching experience is preferred.
- Experience collaborating with professionals at the federal state and local levels.
- Experience working with adult learners and an understanding of adult learning theory.
- Demonstrated ability to work across teams/disciplines.
- Instructional coaching experience preferred.
- Extensive knowledge and skill using technology to promote learning.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver educational trainings.
- Expertise in a wide variety of educational subject areas including but not limited to the following: Career Readiness Technology/STEM Structured Literacy Standards of Mathematical Practice Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Education Administration Social Emotional Learning etc.
- Experience integrating digital technology (devices/applications) into the educational environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written mediums.
- Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
- Experience using a variety of presentation word processing and cloud-based storage systems including the full Microsoft Google suites and artificial intelligence (AI).
- Proficiency in utilizing vetted artificial intelligence (AI) is preferred. The ability to enhance AI skills will be required.
- Adept at using virtual meeting platforms such as Skype Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Experience with learning management systems including but not limited to Google Classroom Canvas and/or Schoology.
- Ability to acquire and apply new knowledge quickly.
- Able to sustain effort and enthusiasm in the quality of work.
- Establish and maintain positive effective working relationships.
- Effective time management organizational skills and prioritization of work to meet the needs of the users.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding education programs students and parents at all times adhering to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requirements to protect staff and student data.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Maintain PDE certification requirements of Act 48 hours for the Professional Education Records Management System (PERMS) specific five (5) year periods.
- Participate in workshops/seminars to increase knowledge in education and effective best practice as recommended by the immediate supervisor or required of the position.
- In accordance with PA Chapter 14.133 staff will participate in training regarding behavior prevention de-escalation and/or safe physical management techniques.
- Attend state local and when appropriate national conferences/networking groups for assigned areas.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current approved Act 34 (PA State Police) Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114-FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015).
- Current approved Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training certificate showing completion of a minimum of three (3) hours training every five (5) years.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sedentary: Able to sit for extended periods of time occasional walking standing (as necessary) and able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Dexterity: Finger movements (computer keyboard calculator) eye-hand coordination (office equipment etc.).
- Audio-Visual Requirements: Within normal range with or without correction.
- Is able to move throughout all buildings floors and grounds.
- Worksite Environment: Primarily indoors-office setting with occasional exposure to outdoor elements/climate during the day.
- Mental demands: Steady response to unpredictable situations ability to remain calm and productive during stressful situations. Demonstrates independent judgment discretion and is able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Ability to travel to various work site locations and meetings as needed.
TIME AND SITE REQUIREMENTS:
- This is a full-time exempt position under the teacher collective bargaining agreement. This position works a minimum of 188 days with the requirement to work up to 210 days as directed by the immediate supervisor. Normal hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Must attend meetings pertinent to job responsibilities outside the office; some attendance at overnight workshops is required.
- Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.
